Back in 2024 during the HBCU Legacy Bowl, I photographed this lady who was of of the referees working this game in this very stadium. Now fast forward to August 2025, LaShell Nelson is again working as a side judge for today’s football game between the Northwestern Wildcats and Tulane Green Wave in both teams’ season opener.

By the way, Nelson currently officiates a lot of football games throughout the Big Ten Conference.

Today, we finally meet and I am honored.

Here are the seven players whom I photographed during the 2024-25 (and the previous) basketball season that were selected in this year's NBA Draft. They are as follows in their draft order while wearing the jersey numbers representing their college team:

- Texas Longhorns guard Tre Johnson (20) - 3rd overall pick by the Washington Wizards in the first round

- Florida Gators guard Walter Clayton Jr. (1) - 18th overall pick by the Washington Wizards (traded to the Utah Jazz) in the first round; Consensus First Team All-American; SEC Tournament MVP; National Champion; Final Four Most Outstanding Player

- Tulane Green Wave (Duke Blue Devils) swingman Sion James (1) - third (33rd overall) pick by the Charlotte Hornets in the second round; Final Four participant with Duke

- Auburn Tigers forward/center Johni Broome (4) - Broome was the fifth (35th overall) pick in the second round by the Philadelphia 76ers; SEC Player of the Year; Consensus First Team All-American; Final Four participant

- Florida Gators guard Alijah Martin (15) - ninth (39th overall) pick by the Toronto Raptors in the second round; Is the only player in NCAA history to start in the Final Four for two different teams - Florida Atlantic in 2023 and Florida in 2025, winning the national championship for the latter; Also wore the same jersey number 15 for Florida Atlantic

- Florida State Seminoles guard Jamir Watkins (1) - 13th (43rd overall) pick by the Washington Wizards in the second round

- Florida Gators guard Will Richard (5) - 26th (56th overall) pick by the Memphis Grizzlies in the second round; National Champions

Yesterday, I got the opportunity to take a flight on a Ford Tri-Motor airplane which was the first all-metal, multiengine commercial airliner which was built in 1929. This airplane was fully restored at a cost of $2 million while the actual purchase cost for one was $55k out of the factory between 1926-1933. A total of 199 were built during that time frame. This plane was on display at the Port of South Louisiana Regional Airport in Reserve over the weekend.

If self-accountability and perseverance was a person, this individual right here would definitely be it. I actually read this entire book throughout the course of today. “Me” written by Laverne Toombs is definitely a worthwhile read and a lot can be learned from it.
