I love snow. We have been fortunate enough to live in several places where snow is a common occurrence, even becoming an annoyance, because shoveling snow and dealing with ice on the road is not my idea of fun.
I do enjoy listening to the falling snow, muffling the sounds of traffic and watching it drift lazily to the ground, reflecting off of itself and illuminating the night.
I love getting the chance to capture snowflakes.

I worked for this stunning view! It was a half mile hike down a steep and muddy trail on the big island of Hawaii with the family, clutching my camera close and whatever rocks I could hold on to for support even closer. Nobody was amused when I set up my tripod and yelled for them to hold up while I took a long exposure, but I'm absolutely thrilled with this shot.

Millions of stars are visible above lava rock formations on the coast of Waikaloah, Hawaii. Navigating the beaches in the dark proved to be incredibly difficult. Lava sand is different than what I'm used to, because it's big and sharp and really easy to trip over the larger stones! However, when I could stop and finally look up, I have never seen so many stars in my life.
