Honored to have such a beautiful celebration right in front of the studio! The sun was shining and good times were abundant. Congratulations to who put on another amazing festival.

When I got the call I was in shock. Marlo was like a little brother to me, yet also taught me so much. An incredibly talented person in many fields and so kind. It’s the empathy and care they had for people that really stands out to me, you know you were appreciated and honored as Marlo’s friend.

As I was sitting on their couch surrounded by their friends and loved ones I noticed a camera on the shelf. A vintage Yashica Lynx film camera. One just like the one Marlo explained their grandfather had given them, but it was broken. After finishing my roll of film I handed Marlo the cam and said, it’s all yours, enjoy. The joy, excitement, gratitude was unmatched. I knew my simple gift meant the world to them. Seeing that camera hit me with a rush of really great memories I’ll enjoy for years to come.

I feel incredibly fortunate I took these images of someone who meant so much to so many people. I loved the shoot we did with Marlo’s beloved van. [If anyone wants a copy of these photos please reach out.]

If I could ask one thing, in Marlo’s honor please be a little kinder to those around you and tell them how much you appreciate them. I lost one of my biggest fans and I can tell you when I felt like quitting a simple pickup from Marlo meant so much to me. We need more of that in our world.

I had the pleasure of photographing Rodney Whitaker at the studio recently. If you’re into jazz you likely know how much of a treat it was to hear him play.
