To be able to rest between contractions while your body is doing something so incredibly powerful is amazing. That minute or two never seem long enough! I remember during those quiet moments, feeling as if I was in some other place, almost as if I were underwater. Things were happening, people were moving and talking and getting ready for a baby in the room around me and I was far, far away gathering strength. Do you remember that feeling from your birth?

Watching the one you love in pain is the hardest thing. I see fathers all the time who are such a strength and place of comfort to their partners during the ups and downs of labor. When the baby finally arrives they can take a moment to finally let go and feel all the feels. These are probably my very favorite moments to capture.

Photographing a dear friend's birth is raising your connection with her to a whole other level. These two images are among my very favorite sequences that I have ever captured and yet I've had them in my lineup to share for a LONG time. There is something so deeply moving about seeing these images side by side...I still get choked up thinking about that moment. Her strength, grace, and determination was something magical to behold and I felt it right to my core. And when that sweet little boy made his entrance into the world, her overwhelming joy filled every bit of air around us. I am transported right back to this moment when I see these raw, emotion-filled images and so I finally decided it was time to share them. I didn't stage this moment at all, the girls flew into the room with soft, sweet whispers and sooo many adorable questions and exclamations. They just piled onto Mommy and Daddy in such a loving way to meet their little brother.
