Pregnancy glow? Yep, she's got it. These two are going to be parents soon and I can't wait to meet their little one. Sam is a girl after my own heart wearing my favorite shade of teal.
It's Friday, who's excited for the weekend?
We're flying to St. Louis tomorrow for a wedding. Wish I were this excited about traveling with the kiddos but I would much rather teleport. Anyone have pointers on traveling with young kids? My daughter is going to be a flower girl in the wedding and I can't wait to see her come down the aisle. I've been prepping her with You Tube videos so she knows what to expect. She is very excited to wear a dress in her favorite color, purple!

Happy Sunday funday! 😍 this family!
In case you were hoping to schedule family photos, I'm all booked for October but I still have some room in November. ALSO save the date for the morning of November 10th for mini sessions! I'll post details here on my FB page as well as Instagram. It will be by donation again as in years past ($50 minimum donation) and I will be giving 50% to a local cause.
Just a simple ceremony photo that captures so much. Maybe it's because these two are friends of mine, but I can almost hear their laughter when I see this photo. Full gallery coming soon!
Everyone probably knows by now that I have been a mermaid fan since I was a girl. This photo shoot was just a vision for a while and this past Sunday the dream became a reality thanks to a wonderful collaboration of creatives. I CAN NOT WAIT to share more of these.

And thanks to Emily Grace Photography for teaming up with me on the photography!
Fall has officially begun! Just a reminder that if you were hoping to schedule photos, there are only a few slots left in October/November. I plan to hold my annual mini sessions fundraiser on Saturday, November 10th so stay tuned for details!
In the meantime, here's a sneak peek from last night with Jackie, Jim and Beckett.
Let me tell you about the power of community and how thankful I am for it this past week. Nearly a week and a half ago now I threw my back out (this is what happens to my body after having 2 kids I guess) and it was so badly sprained that I could barely walk or roll over in bed. It's not easy when you have two small children to look after, but I am SO thankful that my husband has a job that allows him to work from home and for friends and family who have been able to babysit last minute and bring me groceries. I was supposed to photograph Jess and Matt's wedding this past Friday, but due to my injury I had to step down and let my second shooter Emily Wilcox take the reigns. Also sending a shout out to Jenna Brianne Trostle for stepping in as second shooter. I can't thank you ladies enough for having my back (pun intended). Congratulations to Jess and Matt! More to come soon!
The lovely Heike Martin Photography rocked her lifestyle portrait session and here are a few of my favorites. She wanted her confident, fun, easy going personality to come through in these photos and I'd say she nailed it.
Many congratulations to this radiant bride and friend of mine on her wedding day! I promise I'll share more soon (still downloading everything...) but for now here's this stunner of you Jackie Sahd.
A new post is on the blog tonight from some creative freelensing and frolicking in the wildflower field with my daughter. We'll call it an ode to the end of summer (though I'm guessing we won't say goodbye to 90 degree weather until October...)
If I'm being honest, most days motherhood does not leave me with much energy to be creative. With the heat we've been having this summer and the demands of an infant and a toddler, I feel pretty drained most days. Sometimes it takes a lot of motivation to even climb up a set of stairs to get my came
Cheers to the upcoming season of weddings! Looking at the calendar I realized that I will either be main shooting, second shooting, attending, or being a bridesmaid nearly every weekend from now until November. Wowsa! That means if you are hoping to schedule a portrait or family session on a weekend before November, I have limited availability so please be in touch soon!
P.S. I will be offering my annual mini session donation fundraiser in November. Stay tuned for date and details!
Sharing a little photo essay from our time gathering peaches in a friend's orchard the other day. For me peach season marks summer coming to a close. And that means fall is on the way! Can't believe September is right around the corner and we'll have a 3 year old heading off to preschool! What marks the end of summer for you? (other than kids going back to school)
I don't normally do a series like this but couldn't help sharing the many expressions of this adorable little lady. It's nice to have kids smiling at the camera, but I think we'd be missing out on a big part of their personality if we didn't also capture the silly and the grumpy faces :)
New parents, new babe, new love ❤️ I took a meal to these friends and neighbors the other day so I could meet their little guy. I remember what a blessing it was to receive meals that first month after my babies were born. I don’t think I’ve ever been hungrier or food ever tasted better in my life. As nursing moms can attest, you have the appetite of a ferocious hippo.
I would LOVE to get some more in home newborn lifestyle sessions on my calendar this fall, so if you know someone expecting a baby, I'd love it if you passed my name along :)
Because you don't always have to take your engagement photos frolicking through sun streaked meadows or kissing on the edge of a cliff overlooking a river. Don't get me wrong, I love that gorgeous scenery as much as anyone, but what I love just as much is when people bring their own personal touches to their photo shoots and choose to be photographed in a place that has meaning for them. In this case, Sarah and Michael recently purchased their first home together and wanted to take some engagement photos there. I'm pretty sure they've already been putting that record player to good use.
Hope your Sunday was spent having fun with the ones that you love.
The wildflower field may be past it's prime, but it still has plenty of color and I had fun roaming around with this adorable family the other evening. Happy 6 months Lucia!
Reflecting on the ways being a #mompreneur has changed my business. For one, it has helped me become more decisive about saying no to jobs that are not my favorite thing to photograph and be content with shooting less (at least in this stage of life). When people ask me how business is lately, my answer has been “it’s enough to keep me busy and though it’s not a lot, I don’t think I’d want to take on much more right now.” Being a #momtog has turned me into a homebody more than ever before. I spent the first 5 years of my career traveling the world as a photographer for a nonprofit and now I prefer to take on work that is much closer to home. My wanderlust spirit is still there but not as it once was. I think it has also helped me be a little less frivolous with my spending (both for business and personal expenses) now that my income is less than it was before kids. To the other moms out there who started your business before kids, what have been the biggest changes for you?
Our little Nolan is 4 months old. I've been telling everyone that the smiles are becoming more frequent and so are the diaper blowouts :) Photo taken by Dave Hess
Some beauty for a rainy day! Lindsay and John’s wedding at Lauxmont Farms Weddings is on the blog!
Lindsay and John were married at the rotunda site of Lauxmont Farms in May. This location will always hold a special place in my heart because my husband and I were also married there in May of 2012. Their original plan was to be married at the sunken garden; however the forecast called for rain a
We are beach bound again my friends! Here's my brother and his girlfriend being hot models at golden hour :)
Sorry for oversharing photos of my kids, but I really love the dreaminess of these freelensing shots of my daughter in the wildflower field and had to share. I know it may seem that my life is all rainbows and unicorns frolicking with my kids in wildflower fields, but that is just a small percentage of my reality these days. Most of it is sleep deprived, trying to manage daily household chores while also being a fun mom to my kiddos and getting out of the house once a day (if we can). I take photos not only to document my reality but to process, create and escape from it sometimes.
Good morning! There is a new family session on the blog today!
This little blue eyed beauty turned one in May. I loved capturing Sullivan with her mom and dad (and dog) at their home, especially with my all time favorite flower, the peony. She held onto a small pink bud for most of the photo session. Sullivan will no doubt be walking completely on her
In case you want to know what I have been up to you can follow me on Instagram. I’m loving all the color in my feed these days :-) @melissaenglephotography
In case anyone was wondering, the wildflower field near the Lancaster airport is looking awesome. Went to check it out tonight after dressing up like cows at Chick-fil-A Fruitville Pike for the first time. :) I've got some availability next week if anyone wants to do a session there some evening.
Up late finishing the edits on this beautiful bohemian wedding as the fireworks go off in our neighborhood. Happy 4th of July everyone!
Hello from Myrtle Beach, SC. Vacation has been great! In case you didn’t know, mermaids do exist 😉
Just blogged this super fun family sesh! https://www.melissaenglephotography.com/blogposts/lancaster-family-photography-the-smith-family-at-wolfe-hollow
I've been photographing the Smith family for a couple years now, from the time Bill and Rhianna got engaged, and every time it just gets better. Their boys are adorable and have grown so much since I've last seen them. It happened to be the youngest's 2nd birthday the day we had this photo
What summer feels like lately. Happy summer solstice! We are getting ready to head to South Carolina for vacation and I can't wait!
Discovering the magic at Longwood Gardens today. A reminder that I have a membership and can do photo sessions there!
A new blog post is up! Check out this golden sunlit mini session with the Koppes family at the Garden of the Five Senses. P.S. if you venture there, make sure you check for ticks! I've gone twice so far this summer and both times I found a tick on me (and one on Cora).
These friends are new to Lancaster and also happen to be my neighbors. The Koppes family moved here from Colorado less than a year ago and chose to live in our neighborhood in part due to one of my personal projects called "Who's Who on the Hill", documenting people and their stories in C
Up bright and early today with baby boy and decided to do some editing. Here's a favorite from last night's engagement session. Looking forward to photographing their wedding one year from now!
I call this series "Brother and Sister with the Rose Bushes". The rose garden is looking lovely at Buchanan Park in case anyone is up for a summer mini session!
For me, strawberry season always marks the beginning of summer (until my kids are in school of course...) We had so much fun picking berries with friends at Shenk's Berry Farm last week. This is our second year going there and I hope we'll continue to make it an annual tradition. To everyone out there who loves fresh strawberries as much as I do, what are some of your favorite recipes? (photocredit: Lorene Blank)
We had to reschedule our photo session twice because of rain, but we finally got the perfect weather! I had so much fun chasing these guys around :) Here's a sneak peek!
This little blue-eyed beauty just turned one! I was thrilled to photograph her with these gorgeous peonies in their backyard, which also happens to be my favorite flower. Her mom made my day by letting me take some home after our photo session :)

Summer days. We've been having fun with our hula hoops from the Dollar Tree. We spent most of Saturday in the backyard mulching and landscaping and playing in the sprinkler. Once the invasive Asian tiger mosquitos descend upon the city, it will be much less enjoyable to play outdoors. I'm trying to remain optimistic, but every year it seems to get worse and worse. We've tried the organic lawn sprays (safe for kids and pets) which seem to keep them away for a couple weeks but then they return again. Anyone have success avoiding or getting rid of these creatures?

Meet baby Jameson and his amazingly colorful vintage rocking horse, live on the blog now! Nyssa King https://www.melissaenglephotography.com/blogposts/lancaster-newborn-lifestyle-photography-baby-jameson
Welcome to the world baby Jameson! I didn't get to photograph this little dude until he was about 6 weeks old since I gave birth to my own son just a couple weeks after Jameson was born. His mom tells me he loves to eat and he's getting to be quite the little chunker. His parents, Nyssa and Alex, li
I photographed the most beautiful bohemian style wedding this past weekend and could not get over how awesome the white henna turned out on the ladies' hands. Check this out!
Running into the holiday weekend like these guys! I've got a wedding to photograph tomorrow and then it's our 6 year wedding anniversary on Sunday! Anyone have fun ideas for how we can celebrate low-key and locally with two young kiddos?
