Bellies to Babies Photography & Birth Services

Bellies to Babies Photography & Birth Services My name is Jackie, I am a stay at home mom currently practicing as a doula and birth photographer. I am a certified doula through DONA International.

What is a doula? The word "doula" comes from the ancient Greek meaning "a woman who serves" and is now used to refer to a trained and experienced professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before, during and just after birth; or who provides emotional and practical support during the postpartum period. Studies have shown that when doulas attend

birth, labors are shorter with fewer complications, babies are healthier and they breastfeed more easily. A Birth Doula

•recognizes childbirth as a key life experience that the mother will remember all her life

•understands the physiology of birth and the emotional needs of a woman in labor

•assists the woman and her partner in preparing for and carrying out their plans for the birth

•provides emotional support, physical comfort measures and an objective viewpoint

•stays by the side of the laboring woman throughout the labor

•helps the woman get the information she needs to make thoughtful choices, both before and during the labor

•facilitates communication between the laboring woman and the clinical care providers

•works to nurture and protect the woman’s memory of her birth experience.

I know it has been quiet around here! I started nursing school and the fall has been busy! I am heartbroken to say that in October I lost my mother-in-law, Cindy. She was one of the most supportive people in my life and I would not have been able to go along this journey as a doula or photographer without her. Unfortunately, I will no longer be accepting clients for the unforeseeable future. Thank you to all of my previous families for allowing me to support and document your journeys to motherhood, it has truly been an honor.

"Public breastfeeding to me is about feeding my child in the way that works for us, just like every mother has the right to do. I didn’t know until my oldest daughter had turned one how much of a stigma there was to nursing in public. Ever since I have made it my mission to educate others and show my daughters and those around me that it’s not something to be ashamed of—it’s normal and beautiful!"- Ronice, mom of 2

So frustrating! This happened to one of my images yesterday!

Hey Facebook. I seriously want to replace your 2nd, 3rd and 4th letters right now. You see, I have a project that operates under the premise that "the more you see something, the more normal it becomes". And with me on this project are 70 really freaking talented photographers posting images of mothers breastfeeding in public all day every day with little to no success reaching their followers. Our images follow your guidelines TO A "T". But you clearly don't want them to show up in newsfeeds.

Compared to my birth work, which typically reaches 6,000 people and often more than 10,000 people... some of my breastfeeding images in the last week (which is World Breastfeeding Week, but you probably knew that already *wink*) have reached 1,000 or less. In fact, one reached 14. 14 people when I have over 21,000 followers. That's absolutely ridiculous!

So.

We're calling you out Facebook. And to those seeing us calling you out, we are shamelessly asking for likes/comments/shares to get breastfeeding photography BACK INTO NEWSFEEDS!
