There will be a last game.

A last time they pull on that uniform.

We usually don't know it's the last time until later.

One of my favorite moments during an athlete portrait session happens after I take the picture.

It happens when I show the athlete the back of my camera.

Sometimes there's a little smile.

Sometimes their entire expression changes.

They see the athlete everyone else has been seeing all along.

Strong. Confident. Focused. Capable.

Right now, it probably feels normal.

There's a moment I love during an athlete portrait session.

It's when a teenager sees one of the images we're creating and their reaction changes.

They stand a little taller.

They look at themselves differently.

For a moment, they're not seeing the kid who still has homework waiting at home or who made a mistake in last weekend's game.

They're seeing the athlete they've worked incredibly hard to become.

That's what great athlete portraiture can do.

One day, the uniform gets put away for the last time.

The practices end. The tournaments stop. The equipment that once lived permanently in the back of your car disappears.

But the story of who your athlete was during these years deserves to remain.

Professional athlete portraits should do more than show what your son or daughter looked like in a uniform. They should capture their confidence, personality, strength and the athlete they worked so hard to become.
