Big congratulations to my niece on her engagement to a fine young man, whom my son, Michael, with stars in his eyes calls “Michael Jordan”. We are excited to have him join the extended family clan.
I love that I get to be the aunt with a camera, capturing glimpses of their love. It was sweet and gentle, like the warm sun breaking through the crisp winter air.

Why do our babies love us? Because we love them first. We teach them to love us. It’s up to them to respond to our love, but truly, unconditional love is irresistible! Do we, as mere mortals, think we can love better than God? Our love for our children is but a small reflection of God’s love. And once we take the time to know him, by reading his word, we realize how irresistible he is. He is holy and to be fear, fear equals respect. Fear of his judgment is appropriate but as we get to know him, his perfect love, cast out fear and leads us to repentance and worship and love. He is Holy, he is just, he is an everlasting help in time of need, and he is a good good Father. Becoming a parent gives us a small glimpse of God’s vast love for us. His love compels us to want to obey and live lives that honor him. Understanding his love for us, makes us want to change and become more like him.

I love all four seasons. I like a good COLD winter, especially since I don’t have to work outside in it. I’m truly thankful to live in a place that gets to experience all four seasons, each one has its delights! But that summer time glow…ya just can’t beat it.

New life… it’s always a delight to photograph a family with a newborn. The way the other children delight in the newest sibling, it’s heartwarming. A newborn is a reason for the whole family to rejoice, a lifelong friend has joined the sibling tribe.

Get your clients cozy and then make the most of it. Set up the scene, give some prompts, and then move your feet to get different angles and perspectives. Five different images in less than 3 minutes. Meanwhile mom and dad are caught up in talking to, and adoring, their sweet babe. These are not frozen poses, it’s moments of connection being captured.

Nothing so sweet as a sleepy newborn smile!
Sometimes, during a newborn session, we travel to multiple rooms of the home. And sometimes we do the entire session in just one room. One is not better than the other. For gorgeous images, all we need is good window light and a family that loves each other.

The love of a mother. . .
There is so much beauty to be captured during an in home newborn session. I love to use your house as the backdrop for these sessions. Not only do you get the comfort of your own home, but it adds a layer of sentimental value.
Your homes don’t need to be Pinterest perfect. I am here to help. It’s not uncommon for me to move a basket of laundry, a pile of books, toys, shoes, etc. While these things are partly what makes your house your home, removing the from the frame simply helps the eyes to focus on the subject of the image, you and your sweet babe. So before your session, sure, do a quick tidying up of your favorite spaces. But a deep clean of entire house isn’t necessary. When I arrive, I do a quick walk through of the rooms you want to use and if stuff needs moved around, I’ll move it. My desire is that you can relax and simply enjoy the time of interacting with the ones you love best.

Looking to add an element of fun to your newborn sessions? Try a hallway or doorway pose.
Andy and Caleigh made all my hallway and doorway dreams come true. They were champs as we went from room to room, with me saying “let’s try this”… capturing little snapshots of their lives in this lovely place called home. Their sweet little babe was so content, that we zipped through 6 different photo spots, finishing up in only 45 minutes.

Those shining eyes! Awake or asleep, your baby can’t do it wrong for your newborn session. (I personally love a cheerful baby who is awake during their newborn session.) If the baby gets fussy, no problem. I stop and let mom do whatever she needs to help baby settle. Because baby doesn’t have to be asleep, newborn sessions can be as quick as 45 minutes. Most newborn sessions last an hour, unless we take frequent breaks for the star of the show. But even then, 90 minutes is max amount of time needed.
