Through photography we communicate our view of the world...good or bad. Although much of my work is still-life and landscape I am not tied to it. My philosophy is if something catches your eye then take the picture. You might only have that one opportunity in life to capture that particular image and lighting. Don't tell yourself you will come back another time...you rarely do. Rather than labori

ng under the pretext that I am capturing a "moment," I composes my pictures with the intent of creating a new moment. This moment is a delicate balance of factors, all crafted to capture what human eyes fail to see--an image blended from nature and my creative vision. Remember, we do not have to agree with everyone's notion of what constitutes a good photograph.

I hate writing so I decided to see what ChatGPT would say about Antelope Canyon and shooting B&W instead of color...here is the result with some modifications by me.

Most photographers capture Antelope Canyon in color because of its glowing oranges, reds, and purples which come out when saturating color before printing. But black & white can be incredibly powerful.

When you remove color, the canyon becomes all about form, contrast, and light.

B&W works well in Antelope Canyon because of:

Strong tonal range — bright shafts of light vs deep shadowed curves

Sculptural textures — the sandstone often looks like carved fabric

Abstract compositions — lines and shapes stand out more without color

Mood & drama

As a final thought...many photographers revisit their color files and discover some images were meant to be black & white — they just didn’t realize earlier.

Photographers generally like to photograph the canyon in color. By adding a bit of saturation, the beautiful colors of the canyon emerge. However, the canyon in B&W is just as beautiful. The picture is looking up towards the sky. This photo was originally posted about four years ago, but it is now the beginning of a B&W project about the canyon.
