Sold all the Sony gear to dip my toes into the Leica M system. My shooting needs and style has changed a lot. So the Sony's were collecting dust and not sparking anymore inspiration.
I've had the Leica Typ 240 body for a little over a week and just got 2 lenses for it 4 days ago. Although it's a digital camera. It still functions more or less like an slr camera except the viewing system. I'm familiar with small film rangefinders like the Olympus RC, XA, 35 SP, Canonet QL17 GIII to name a few that I've used.
Absent is any type of auto focus, shutter priority, viewing directly through the lens. Viewing and composition is done through a complete separate match focus or rengefinder window. Now I've shot and still handle film slrs. So manual control, lighting and composition is no stranger to me and when im out using this digital Leica. I try to tell myself that I still need to operate it like a film slr. But there's that other part of me that knows im holding a digital camera and it can AF just like my Sony. Or it has the same dynamic range as my Sony sensor. Nope. This camera is so far back in tech from my Sony and thats fine with me. The Sonys spoiled the s**t out of me. It gave me what I wanted from a plethora of setting I had chef'd up and dialed in.
Right now I have a user setting set to JPEG only. Im still trying to get a feel for the operations and I'm getting to know how different the metering is. I'll set it back up to shoot raw in a little while and then I'll spend more time getting to know the raw files. But for now, I will work and shoot out in the town until the system becomes muscle memory.
