Scott Sternbach Photography After retiring from a rewarding career as a cardiovascular technologist, I found a new passion behind the lens.

Based in Wayne County, PA, I spend my days chasing waterfalls and capturing the quiet beauty of nature's hidden gems.

Some places just don’t feel real until you’re standing right in the middle of them. Hiking the Gorge Trail at Watkins Glen State Park felt like completely stepping off the grid and into a prehistoric world. As a photographer, this place is an absolute dream—and a test of patience because you want to stop every two feet! The way the light filters down into the deep shale cuts, bouncing off the mist of 19 different waterfalls, is incredible. Capturing the sheer scale of the stone staircases and rock formations behind every turn was an amazing experience.
Hands down, one of the most beautiful, timeless hikes we've ever experienced. 🥾💚

They say "Ithaca is Gorges," but on this trip, I found myself completely captivated by the urban landscape.
As a photographer, you’re always hunting for stories told through color, texture, and light. Ithaca’s street art scene delivers exactly that. Walking the downtown blocks on vacation, I was struck by how beautifully integrated the murals are into the community—turning alleyways and storefronts into a dynamic, open-air gallery.
I spent a few hours just chasing the light across these walls, capturing the raw, brilliant energy of local artists. Bringing these massive physical textures into a tight photographic frame is one of my favorite challenges.
Check out the gallery below to see how Ithaca wears its heart on its walls. 🖼️🎨

There’s something special about experiencing a sunset from the water. Over time, I’ve photographed the many phases of sunset from my boat on Lake Wallenpaupack, capturing the changing colors, reflections, and moods from different locations around the lake.
From the warm golden glow of late afternoon to the fiery oranges and reds of sunset, and finally the soft blues and purples of twilight, each moment lasts only a few minutes before transforming into something completely different. No two sunsets are ever the same, and that’s what keeps me coming back with my camera.
These images are more than photographs—they’re moments in time, frozen forever, showcasing the beauty, tranquility, and ever-changing character of the lake. Taken last night.

There are moments when the world seems to hold its breath, and Thursday under the Ledgedale Bridge was exactly that. It felt as though time stood still on the river—the kind of stillness that reminds you why we love this landscape so much.
The wildlife was nothing short of incredible. I was in my boat tracking along the shoreline, watching a blue heron hunt with perfect, quiet precision. But the highlight of the day was something I’ve been chasing for a long time.
I looked up to see bald eagles soaring directly over our heads. I held my breath as he swooped down framed the shot, and captured what is quite possibly one of the best photographs of an eagle I have ever taken. To see them there, and to spot another eagle perched perfectly in the trees, was just amazing.
There is a raw, untouched beauty to the river this time of year. I’m thrilled to have captured these quiet giants in their element.

There’s a specific kind of magic that happens when the sun meets the horizon on Lake Wallenpaupack.
Every single day, the sky puts on a completely different show. Some evenings, the water turns into a mirror of liquid gold and deep purples; other mornings, the mist rises off the lake just as the first pastel pinks start to peak over the trees.
I was looking through my camera today I felt this massive wave of gratitude. I am incredibly fortunate to live just steps away from this beautiful lake. Having this stunning backdrop right in my backyard means I get to grab my camera and capture these endless, breathtaking moments at a moment's notice.
Lately, I've been focusing on the shifting phases of the sunset sky, watching how the light and colors evolve minute by minute. Bringing long exposure photography into the mix gives these images a whole different, calming effect—smoothing out the water and letting the true, serene mood of the lake wash over you.
It’s a constant reminder to slow down, breathe, and appreciate the view. Nature never gives us the same sky twice, and I’m so lucky I get a front-row seat to all of them

I thought I was just taking a routine drive through South Wilkes-Barre, but the city had other plans for me today.

I stumbled upon some of the most incredible, breathtaking street art I have ever seen. Calling it "graffiti" or "murals" feels like an understatement—these walls are alive.

There is a unique magic that happens when art truly comes to life. It’s that exact split second where a flat surface jumps out at you, telling a story, demanding to be noticed. As a photographer, there’s no better feeling than capturing that pulse through my lens.

Through the camera, I didn't just see paint on brick; I saw the heartbeat of the neighborhood.

There is a brief, quiet window just before the rest of the world wakes up when the light does something truly spectacular. I caught the sunrise along Finn Swamp Road in Lakeville this morning, and it didn’t disappoint.
Watching the first rays of sun break through the trees, burning off the morning mist, and catching the stillness of the landscape is exactly why I love getting out here early with my camera. There is a raw, peaceful energy to the Lake Wallenpaupack region at dawn that you just can't replicate.
Here is a look at the light breaking through today. Worth the early alarm every single time.

Nature rarely waits for you to go find your camera, but yesterday this Blue Heron made an exception. I spotted him on a rock in my pond and managed to get back with my gear just in time. The way he stands against the water is just incredible—so glad he decided to stay a while.

I came across this little guy yesterday in Honesdale on the side of the road. He was watching the world go by. . I wanted to scoop him up and take him home.
