Two more little gifts left behind in Maine. 🍂💛

One at Eagle Lake, and one at the waterfront park in Bar Harbor. Each is a photo print tucked in with a handwritten note, hoping to bring a little beauty and encouragement to whoever finds it.

I usually bring home photographs from my travels. This time, I’m letting a few find homes of their own. 📷

Have you ever looked at a photograph and wished you could step right into it?

That’s how I feel about a long path disappearing into the trees. I start wondering where it leads and imagining what it would feel like to walk there.

Maybe it reminds you of somewhere you used to go. Maybe it looks like the beginning of an adventure. Or maybe you’d simply like a few quiet minutes with nothing to do but put one foot in front of the other.

I love that a photograph can leave room for your own story.

Most people bring home a souvenir from Bar Harbor. I left one behind. 🍁💛

My latest free art drop is on a bench in the park in the center of town, a photo of an autumn leaf covered in tiny water droplets, tucked in with a handwritten note.

A little piece of fall for someone to take home, and hopefully a little encouragement when they least expect it.

A little piece of Gardiner’s autumn, left right where you can enjoy the view. 🍂💛

I left this photo print on a bench in the park across from Christ Episcopal Church in Gardiner, Maine. It’s my photograph of the church framed by those beautiful gold and red fall leaves.

Now it’s waiting to brighten someone else’s home.

Apparently, I take my own photography advice. 😂

I’ve talked about buying used camera gear as a way to make photography a little more affordable. Well, my latest used lens arrived, and of course I had to open the box with you.

One thing I wish I’d understood earlier: you don’t have to buy everything brand-new to enjoy photography or keep learning.

A thoughtful used purchase can give you more options within your budget and opening that box is still pretty exciting. 📦📷

These prints are going to people I haven’t met yet. 🤍

Nobody ordered them. I’m packaging each one with a handwritten note and bringing them on my trip to Maine next week.

Along the way, I’m planning to leave little gifts of photography for someone to discover and take home.

Maine gave me some beautiful memories and photographs on my last visit. This time, I want to share a little of that beauty and hopefully bless someone’s day.

The world gets loud. Then there’s this. 🌿

Sunlight, flowing water, and a little quiet along the Virgin River in Zion National Park.

This is what being in nature sounds like to my soul.

Photography should be enjoyable but getting started can feel surprisingly discouraging.

You see incredible photographs everywhere, discover that lenses can cost more than your first car, and suddenly everyone is explaining histograms and chromatic aberration.

You just wanted to photograph a duck. 😂📷

Here are three things to watch out for:

1. Comparing your first photographs to someone else’s best work.
2. Believing you need more expensive equipment before you can improve.
3. Trying to learn everything at once.

Start with what you have. Practice one skill at a time. Give yourself room to make mistakes.

You will take photographs you don’t like. Keep the ones you love, learn from the others, and remember why you picked up the camera.
