This is a shoot I did last weekend for for their JuJitsu class. (My boys take this class) I have to take a moment to shout out the Jiu-Jitsu instructor, Sensei , because he is absolutely amazing with all the kids.
Sensei Thom has this incredible way of teaching he is patient, detailed, and always encouraging. He breaks everything down in a way the boys understand, and he pushes them just enough to help them grow without ever overwhelming them. You can see how much he genuinely cares about their progress and confidence.
The boys have been working hard on perfecting their rear naked chokes, arm bars, and triangles, and it’s all thanks to Thom’s guidance, structure, and support. Every class they walk out feeling stronger, more focused, and proud of themselves and that is because of the environment he creates.
Sensei Thom, thank you for everything you do. Your dedication, your passion, and the respect you show your students make such a huge difference. Our boys absolutely love learning from you, and we’re so grateful to have you as a part of their martial arts journey.

From day one, you’ve been a force loud, full of life, and impossible to ignore. And truthfully, we wouldn’t want it any other way. You’re our storm, and you’ve changed our lives forever.
You are the best thing that ever happened to our family. You’ve brought comedy, laughter, singing, wrestling, and the kind of wild fun that makes every day brighter. As a photographer, I love capturing powerful moments but as a mom, this one hits even deeper.

Hybrid Combat Karate just introduced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) to their program, and my boys (ages 8 and 9) jumped right in. Watching them take on something completely new and seeing their excitement as they learn to grapple, control, and stay calm under pressure has been incredible.

Sensei Thom is fantastic with the kids. He’s patient, encouraging, and passionate about the art of BJJ. These classes go way beyond physical skill they’re teaching my boys how to think strategically, stay disciplined, and respect the process. They’re learning how to use skill over strength, which is such a powerful lesson.

I’ve seen firsthand how much they’ve grown through karate and now, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is opening up even more opportunities for confidence, balance, and mental focus.

If you’ve been thinking about getting your child involved in martial arts or want to try something new yourself, Hybrid is now offering BJJ for ages 5+ and adults. I’m excited to keep documenting this journey because it’s more than just movement… it’s mindset.

One year ago, Hybrid Combat Karate opened its doors and it’s been a year of strength, growth, and transformation. This dojo is more than a training space; it’s a community where values like respect, discipline, and perseverance are poured into every student, every day.

As a mom and photographer, I’ve had the joy of not only watching but capturing the growth of my boys, Julian and Aiden, who are now proudly wearing their orange belts and working toward their second stripe. The confidence and focus they’ve developed go far beyond the mat.

The instructors at Hybrid aren’t just teaching martial arts they’re building character. They invest in these kids with patience, energy, and purpose. They challenge them, lift them up, and help shape them into the best versions of themselves.

Here’s a look at some moments from Hybrid’s 1 Year Anniversary celebration where hard work, heart, and community came together in the most powerful way.

Not every kid fits into a neat little box and honestly, that’s what makes them so amazing. Some kids are wild, strong-willed, energetic, emotional, or just plain hard to figure out. Whether it’s autism, ADHD, anxiety, ODD, or just a big personality in a little body parenting these kids comes with challenges, and most of us have tried everything to help them thrive.
Us parents try everything from therapy, working on emotional regulation, confidence, social skills… but progress felt slow. Our child are struggling to come out of their shell, to make friends, to believe in themselves.
Then we walked into Hybrid Combat Karate.
From the very first event, we saw something shift. This wasn’t just another program or activity. It was a place where kids like ours were not only accepted they were understood, encouraged, and thriving. We enrolled both of our boys, and it quickly became clear: HCK was exactly what they needed.
At Hybrid Combat Karate, kids learn so much more than self-defense. They learn discipline, routine, motivation, and confidence. They get clear direction, firm boundaries, and a whole lot of encouragement and for kids who are intense, sensitive, or just full of energy, that structure makes all the difference.
We’ve watched kids go from struggling to focused, from anxious to proud, from feeling like the “problem” to becoming leaders in class. And it’s not just our kids we’ve seen it in so many others.
This dojo isn’t just about punches and kicks it’s about helping kids become the strongest, most confident version of themselves. It’s about giving them a place where they can channel all that energy, emotion, and intensity into something powerful.
If you’re a parent of “that kid” the one who’s always bouncing off the walls, who pushes limits, who struggles to fit in don’t give up. Just maybe, they don’t need to change who they are. They just need the right environment to shine.

Some sessions are just unforgettable and this one left such a mark on my heart. This sweet family brought all the love, all the sweetness, and just enough sass (thanks to little sis 😉) to make it a perfect evening.
Mom and Dad shared quiet moments full of love, while big brother melted us all with how protective and kind he was. And that little sister? She made me work for it, but those tiny smirks and giggles we captured? Pure gold. ✨
Watching their bond, the laughter, the little in-between moments it reminded me exactly why I do what I do. They didn’t just show up for photos… they showed up with open hearts, ready to make memories, and I feel so lucky to be the one who captured them.
