I owe the next generation an apology.

My son has heard me criticize my body. He has heard me point out the parts I wanted to hide and watched me pick apart photographs of myself.

I would be heartbroken to hear him speak about himself that way, yet I have unintentionally shown him that it is acceptable for me to do it.

This is not a declaration that I suddenly love every angle every day. It is a promise to practice kinder words. To stop treating my changing body like something that needs to be punished. And to remember that the people coming after us are listening.
