I decided only to post on IG tonight because I liked the music better… FB music selection isn’t great!
This little boss just looked so peaceful on my solar light tonight!

There’s something a little magical about the fair. Somewhere between the animals, the dirt, the noise and the fading light, the rest of the world just disappeared for a while. The stress, the things I need to do, the things I can’t fix—all of it got quiet.

Maybe that’s why I’m always drawn to the animals. Look into their eyes long enough and there’s something there that feels deeper than words—like you’re catching a tiny glimpse of their soul while somehow giving your own a chance to breathe.

For a few hours, nothing else mattered. And sometimes, I think that kind of magic is exactly what the soul needs.

Although mine is now quite certain it also needs a donkey. 🫏❤️

Somewhere between the dirt, the grease, the grime and the endless list of projects, I sometimes forget that before all the work, I was simply someone who loved trains.

Then an ALCO comes rolling by, I stop what I’m doing, reach for my camera… and there she is again — the Railfan in me who never really went anywhere. ❤️🚂

Although there is a certain irony in realizing I took this while standing on an EMD.

Still processing that part. 😂

Some days are long enough to leave you with nothing left to give. Then dusk settles in, the fog begins to rise, and the whole world seems to soften around the edges. I’ve seen this view more times than I can count, and somehow it still stops me in my tracks. I hope I never get so used to beautiful things that they stop taking my breath away.

There is a strange kind of beauty in the things the world has forgotten.
Toys that once knew laughter now sit quietly beneath the trees, their colors fading, their faces weathered, while the grass grows taller around them.
They were made to bring joy.
Made to be played with.
Made to be loved.
And somehow, even after all of that has disappeared, they are still beautiful.
Maybe even more so now.
There is something haunting about a forgotten toy.
Maybe it’s because they never really stop looking like they’re waiting.
Not necessarily for the child who left them behind…
but for someone to see them again.
Someone to look beyond the dirt, the cracks and all those years spent forgotten.
Someone to choose them.
Someone to remind them what it felt like to be loved.
Someone to bring them back to life.

One year ago at this event which the actual 1 year will be tomorrow, I unknowingly had my last conversation with my best friend, Chip…and it wasn’t a day where we were laughing and enjoying each others company…it’s a day I wish I could turn back time and redo!

This afternoon, I made sure my day put me right where I wanted to be—beside his phone booth as the Greenfield Flyer train rolled by during Caboose Day. Seeing the caboose on the flyer, his favorite ride, felt like the perfect way to remember him.

One year later, I still catch myself wishing I could tell him about my day.

Sometimes the best part of a train ride isn’t the destination—it’s the memories that ride beside us, the new friendships waiting around the bend, and a sunset that still finds its way to an old friend every evening.
