Today’s feature is another 4Lug legend, the Renault 5 Turbo! Since it was never sold in the US, getting to see one here is a rare thing. Luckily I was able to come across one at the event this year. It was like nothing I’ve ever seen before and not just because it’s French.

In 1980, following two consecutive gas crises, the automotive industry was in mid pivot, focusing on small, fuel efficient and affordable cars. France’s hit car at the time was the Renault 5, and they decided to take it rally racing. In typical French fashion, they threw convention to the wind and turned the light-duty front engined, front wheel drive car into a rear engined, rear wheel drive car by turning the engine around and putting it behind the rear seats! Luckily for the public, Renault had to homologate this hare-brained racer and develop a production version. The Turbo 1 was sold with a 1.4L four cylinder with a turbo, obviously, pumping out 160hp at 12lbs of boost. The real trick to this car was the chassis development. Not only was it one of the first production vehicles fitted with an intercooler, it also came with four wheel independent suspension and disc brakes. This, paired with its meager curb weight of just over 2000lbs (564kg), made it one of the best performing cars of its time. It even outperformed Ferraris of the time, granting it its legendary status.

Unfortunately, its success as a production car was not shared on the racing circuit. Although it was a very fast and capable race car, Audi launched its first quattro rally car at the same time, thus dooming the poor Renault. Production ended in 1984, after only about 5000 cars were produced, making it a rare and sought-after automotive anomaly.

While watching the Sebring 12hr race, it reminds me of when I got to see the Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR-lMH race car at the . The car is a work of art. It’s amazing to see how form follows function, without sacrificing stunning design. All the exquisite carbon fiber work makes it seem almost fragile and delicate, but it’s not. Sadly the race isn’t going very well for but it’s great to see the car out there, competing hard! 💪🏻

It was a pleasant start to the day today. I stopped by the vintage motorcycle show being hosted by BEST Motosports, and was truly shocked at what I found. The majority of the motorcycles I see around town on a regular basis are Harley Davidson, and this show was featuring Japanese and European bikes. I thought, ‘eh, there may be a handful of bikes there.’ Boy was I wrong. It was a full parking lot of not just motorcycles, but some really rare stuff too, including a major celebrity! Eddie Lawson was there with a group of incredible bikes from his personal collection! They even had an Aermacchi! I was over the moon and had a great time taking pictures and chatting with enthusiastic owners.

( If we had the pleasure of chatting at the show, or you see your bike in the pictures posted, feel free to reach out to me and I will happily tag you and send you the images )

Today I am featuring another 4Lug beauty designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro while he was at Bertone in the 1960s and 70s. A personal favorite of mine, the Alfa Romeo 105/115 series (Giulia) coupes are a work of art. The subtlety curved profile and the stunning use of simple geometry makes this car a stand-out. Originally penned in 1962, the Giulia was graced with a 1.6L twin cam inline 4 cylinder engine producing 105hp at 6000rpm. All models carried the GT (Grand Turismos) badge in some form, and the GTV (V stood for veloce which is Italian for fast) was the quickest version, sporting a slight increase in hp and could reach speeds of 112mph. The GTV models were very popular during the car’s production run, which was between 1963 and 1977, and sold well. It is another example of timeless design from the Italian design firm that produced many stunning examples during its hay day. This example, finished in a lovely grey, was something to behold. I’ll take three, please and thank you. 🙏🏻

Introduced to the world in 1965, a year before the Lamborgini Miura (which ended up using the same headlights), the Fiat 850 Spider was considered a modern, stylish and affordable alternative to the high dollar halo cars being designed at the time. Designed by Bertone’s Giogetto Giugiaro, the rear engine, rear wheel drive car had a modest output of just 52hp in Europe, and 49hp in the US. It was quite successful during its production (1965-1973), selling 130k units worldwide. I myself had never seen one before, so I gravitated to it immediately. The design details by Bertone are very well done and make the entire car feel much more valuable than what it was sold for back in the day. I got to chat with its owner who was very enthusiastic about the car and was happy to share interesting details about it. It’s a beautiful piece of 4lug history.

This was my first Ford GT experience in person. I was shocked by how low it was. It is just as stunning in person as it is on a poster. I had the opportunity to chat with the owner, which a pleasure. Very down-to-earth.

Time to highlight some of the extra special vehicles I’ve had the pleasure of shooting over the past fews months. Starting with this beautiful 1930’s Ford Pickup with a stunning green faux patina paint job. It was loaded with a bunch of neat details.

Concourse In The Hills 2026 - Part 4

I really enjoyed the variety of cars at this show. They had everything from a 50 million dollar Ferrari to a mk1 Honda Civic CVCC. Both garnering equal attention as it happened. Enjoy the latest round of highlights!
