Mighty, Mighty, Colorado
We love and respect you.
I also miss you. I have almost no words for the experience. The ones I do have mirror the opening lines I heard a guide say before a rapid, and then I said or thought going through so many more on our 225 mile journey through the Grand Canyon on the Colorado River. To say I’m overwhelmed with reverence and wonder with the trip is an understatement. The river, canyon, wildlife, solitude, isolation, friends, quiet, stars, weather, and dory were just so beautiful, and I’m so grateful that I got to share that place for over two weeks with so many inspiring people/animals. It truly is a different world below the rim.
One day I’ll share a lot more of the 8000 photos I took, and maybe even some words I wrote, considering the spark for taking the trip was it being a writing workshop with Craig Childs, and Sherwin Bitsui. Could be this month, next, or ideally they’ll be scheduled to post while I’m on a river somewhere avoiding the world again soon!
For now here’s a day where I think I thought “well that’s the most beautiful, cool, interesting, lucky, odd, wild, incomprehensible or concerning thing I’ve ever seen” a couple dozen times. This was a repeated phenomenon on the 17 day trip. I guess this is what people mean when they say the Grand gets in your blood? I know its sand will be in my camera sensor forever.
