During my first 6 months of living in Louisiana I had the chance to be a bartender at a local rum distillery. Many of my shifts I was kept company by one of the farmers that provided the sugar for the distillery. Sugar cane is big industry here in Louisiana. Driving through the small towns you often find yourself surrounded on all sides by stalks shaking in the breeze. In the fall you’ll see billows of smoke pillowing in the air and they burn their crop for harvesting. 🌾
I was lucky enough to spend a Sunday morning with some farmers, see the harvesting process, and even take home some of the end product.
Many thanks to for bringing us out and showing us around. It was a great morning full of learning about what we’re surrounded by down here in south Louisiana
