Charlotte Gibb Photography

Charlotte Gibb Photography Nature photographer. Author of "Get Intimate: Making a Personal Statement with Intimate Landscapes." To enrich. To engage.

Charlotte’s images are not meant to chronicle, but are designed to inspire. She notices things that others might miss. Her pallet is the Western United States — Yosemite, the California Coast, the Pacific Northwest, and the deserts of the Southwest. She returns frequently to these familiar places, seeking out new ways to expose both the familiar and the hidden places there. She uses long exposure,

natural events, and unexpected perspectives to expose the true essence of a scene. What is ordinary and commonplace is made distinctive under her expert eye for composition. And through it all, her feminine touch sets her apart from the field of landscape photographers.

Happy Earth Day.

I’m excited to share that the ebook I’ve been working on for the past 18 months, "The Nature of Place", is now live.

This is a collaboration between the six of us in the Circle of Light: Anna Morgan, Sarah Marino, Claudia Welsh, Jennifer Renwick, Michele Sons, and myself.

It’s not your typical photography book.

Six essays.
300+ photographs.
And a conversation about what it means to feel connected to a place.

Available now at a launch price of $29 through May 5. Use code CIRCLE at checkout.

I’m excited to be an instructor at the Out of Yosemite Landscape Photography Conference, January 18–22, 2027, hosted by Out of Chicago.

I taught at Out of Yosemite in 2020, and it remains one of my favorite teaching experiences. This year’s faculty is exceptional and includes four former assistants to Ansel Adams. John Sexton, Alan Ross, Ted Orland, and Chris Rainier. Not a bad group to share winter light with.

We’ll be working in Yosemite during one of its quietest and most graphic seasons. Snow, structure, subtle color, and long pauses between shutter clicks. My favorite Yosemite conditions!

You can save $500 on your deposit with code gibbyosemite500. Expires 2/16/26.

Hope to see you there. Here are a few recent winter compositions in Yosemite.

What a week. I had the pleasure of speaking and leading two workshops at the Moab Photography Symposium, spending our evenings at Dead Horse Point State Park.

When I teach, I rarely photograph except to demonstrate a technique or show a composition. But this time, the light was just too good to ignore.

My students created some stunning work. Watching them find their own vision out there was as rewarding as making photographs myself.

These are a few of the moments I managed to capture between conversations, laughter, and raindrops.

Just got back from Colorado, where I had the privilege of speaking at the inaugural Women’s Winter Conference in Estes Park! Such an inspiring event. Then we spent some time with family in Vail, got in a few ski days, and just enjoyed being in the mountains.

I didn’t have much time for photography, but of course, I brought my camera anyway. This one’s from Rocky Mountain National Park—this light showed up for just a few seconds, and I almost didn’t get my camera out in time. I managed to grab exactly one good shot before it disappeared.
When it comes to witnessing fleeting moments like this, are you more of a…

Had a great time under the stars with friends last night! I didn't have my usual astro setup, so I used the camera I had with me. My Hasselblad X2D may be my new favorite astro camera. Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS)

We've been in Wawona lately, where the heat has driven us to the river daily to cool off. Today, this mother Merganser and her single chick were sharing their swimming hole with us.

"A Tale of Two Seasons" — Dreaming of cooler days in Yosemite National Park. Just a couple of months ago in May, the Black Oaks were sprouting new growth when a late-season snowstorm graced the Valley one last time.

To clarify, this is a single frame, not a composite. It's not unusual to witness this phenomenon in Yosemite Valley after a storm passes. The previous night's snow melts quickly at the lower elevations but lingers on the trees just a bit higher up, where they remain in the shadow of the cliffs until later in the morning.

In an era where so many images — whether AI-generated or composites — attempt to deceive us with fantastical landscapes, I felt it necessary to assure you that this is genuine. It's an unusual time we're living in, isn't it?
