Your photos hold memories – but the stories behind them are what bring those memories to life. Here is one of my stories:

This photo is from almost exactly 19 years ago: September 22, 2007, in South Bend, Indiana. My mom is holding my 17-month-old son, and this was the first time he recognized a symbol and said it out loud – he pointed to the flag and said “En-a Dee”, recognizing the interlocking ND. We lived in Chicago in the late 2000s and would go to two or three Notre Dame football games every fall (my husband and I both graduated from ND in the early '90s) and meet up with my parents, who would drive up from Columbus, Ohio and host elaborate tailgaters. We have so many wonderful memories of meeting up with friends and family at the tailgaters from 2006-2014! We moved to Colorado in 2015 and rarely made it back to campus after that, at least until the fall of 2024, when my son started as a freshman at Notre Dame. Fitting that he has recognized that interlocking ND his whole life!

Your photos hold memories – but the stories behind them are what bring those memories to life. Here is one of my stories:

This photo holds happy memories of my first trip to Europe (that I could remember, anyway) in June 1987. I was born in the Azores, Portugal, while my dad was in the Air Force, and 1987 was the first time my parents returned to Europe. We spent 10 days in Italy, then a week in Lisbon and the Azores. This photo is from a boat trip to Capri during our Italy tour, and I love it for many reasons – my dad and I both had our trusty cameras around our necks; my grandmother, mom, and I are so colorful with our 80s clothes and hairstyles; and my mom is actually in the photo (she hated having her picture taken!). The only downside of the photo is that my brother isn't in it (since he was taking the photo). I was so grateful when I found the negatives from this trip in a box a few years ago – what a blessing to rediscover old memories!

This September, I'm participating in Save Your Photos Month with The Photo Managers. The challenge is simple: pick one photo, tell the story behind it, and share it. That's it.

Your photos hold memories – but the stories behind them are what bring those memories to life. Here is one of my stories:

This was always my favorite photo from my parents' wedding album. I remember seeing it when I was a kid growing up in Ohio, then not again for a couple of decades when my parents' album was “lost” (it actually was in a box at my brother's house in North Carolina, “rediscovered” in the late 2010s!). My parents got married on June 19, 1965, and this photo was taken at their reception at Leonard's of Great Neck (on Long Island, New York, and the venue still hosts weddings today!). I love the vintage cars in the background, how regal my parents look, and the majestic staircase that showcased the train of my mom's wedding dress. The dress itself also has special meaning to me, as it was worn by my grandmother, Ann, at her wedding in January 1942; her sister Jane at her wedding in March 1942; my mom in 1965, and finally me, when I got married in June 1995! This photo was an inspiration for what I wanted my wedding to be like, and I was so happy when I was able to get it scanned and preserved in the late 2010s!
