How To Categorize, Sorti and Cull Photographs – Managing your Image Files

Our you looking for a consistent tried and true method to critique and organize your photographs? Here’s a simple and organized approach that will save you time, memory, and a way to manage files of photos that are significant in value to you and others!

Each of us sees the world from a unique perspective and lens. Our inherent intuition, passions and influences guide us to subjects and stories we love to photograph. And we all have a critical view about what makes a photograph great.

An extraordinary photograph is defined by a single subject of a simple idea that speaks volumes! It almost jumps off your screen when you see it. It causes you to pause, step back to study it and wonder how in the world was that moment captured by the photographer.

There are four general categories I rate and sort photographs into:
*Records
**Studies
***Working or Publishable
****Extraordinary

When you review and rate your photographs categorize them using this criteria. Set up a folders for each subject and sort only the images you plan on reviewing later, keeping, publishing or producing a print or product with. Use your critical eye to cull out the photos that can be trashed and discarded. Select and rate the best of the rest then file them for use as you need.
