When I was in my early teens, I watched the movie K9 PI with Jim Belushi and GSD Jerry Lee and instantly became obsessed with German Shepherds. From then on, everyone that knew me knew that “when I grow up” I’m going to get a German Shepherd and name it Jerry Lee.
My parents, being as thoughtful, generous, selfless and loving as they are, observed this obsession and on my 22nd birthday, while partying at honey lane and jamming with FSL in the basement , surprised me by carrying down a beautiful female German Shepherd puppy, Geri Leigh. I couldn’t believe it.
She was the life of every honey lane party thereafter. The relentless kong chasing, popcorn loving, stealthy food snatching, high fiving snuggle queen and best friend whose soulful eyes spoke so many words and emotions.
Unfortunately, due to the onslaught and rapid spread of cancer, Geri, despite how tired and weak, found enough strength to slightly move her paw for our final high five last night before she was put to rest.
Thank you Geri Leigh for being my rock through the majority of my roller coaster 20’s. Thanks mom and dad for giving me my best friend and additionally Daniel, for continuing to love her as much as I did when I moved out. Thank you Kerri for being by my side through everything and anything and loving her with all that you are. And lastly, thank you to anyone who was part of her life and threw that damn kong no matter how late it was and tired you were.
Rest In Peace, Geri Leigh “Moondog”, “Joodg”, “Geri Leigh Curtis”, “Ger Ger Binks”
You will be missed but never forgotten.
