Jim Solberg passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2014, surrounded by loved ones. He died like he lived, with quiet dignity.
Jim was born Jan. 19, 1946, to Shirley (Likens) Solberg and Clayton C. Solberg. He attended Aquinas High School and then went on to University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. He shared his love of wildlife, nature and science throughout his life. His early career was as a science teacher at Holy Trinity School. Later in life Jim was a nature and wildlife photographer and an outdoor writer. He was the author of the popular local Ridgerunner Report. Jim is survived by his children, Sarah (Aaron) Konkol of Madison, and Peter Solberg of Minneapolis; his mother, Shirley Solberg Swenson of La Crosse; seven brothers and sisters, Steve Solberg of La Crosse, Tom (Vicki) Solberg of Madison, Dan (Peggy) Solberg of Verona, Mary (Patrick) Kirchberg of St. Paul, Mike (Deb) Solberg of Galesville, Linda (Dave) Losen of La Crosse, and Nancy Solberg of Madison; nieces and nephews, Tim Solberg Jeff Solberg, Becca (Roger) Solberg, Beth (Scott) Daigger, Susan Solberg, Connor Losen, Cole Losen, Clayton Solberg, and Spencer Solberg, Zane Solberg and Noah Sichel, five stepbrothers and sisters, Myron (Chris) Swenson of La Crosse, Randy (Dawn) Swenson of La Crosse, Jeanne (Steve) Wilke of Omaha, Bonnie (Dave) Folkerts of Minneapolis, and Eric (Joan) Swenson of La Crosse; many stepnieces and nephews; his former wife, Gail; and the entire Lachman family.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, Clayton C. Solberg; stepfather, Myron Swenson; nieces, Laura Solberg and Lynda Massage; and both sets of grandparents.
Jim’s family and friends will celebrate his life May 4, 2014, at Goose Island, one of his most beloved spots, south of La Crosse, weather permitting. Details will follow on Jim’s website and on Facebook.
