Some mornings at Lanikai are all soft pink skies and pastel colors. Others are filled with dramatic clouds, golden sunlight and the kind of colors you can’t quite capture in a photo. 🌅💛
And sometimes you get a little bit of everything.
This was one of those mornings. ☀️🌈 💖
One of my favorite things about Lanikai is that no two sunrises ever look the same. You can stand in almost the exact same spot on two different mornings and have two completely different experiences.
And those cloudy mornings? Sometimes they turn out to be the prettiest.

A few tips if you’re planning a sunrise visit:
🌅 Arrive 20–30 minutes before sunrise. Some of the prettiest colors happen before the sun comes up.
📸 Bring your camera! The Mokulua Islands make a gorgeous backdrop.
⛅️ Don’t automatically skip a cloudy morning. Partly cloudy skies can create incredible colors when the sunlight breaks through.
🚗 Lanikai is a residential neighborhood with limited parking. Read posted restrictions, respect driveways and keep noise down in the early morning.
☀️ Best of all? Watching the sunrise is completely free.
There’s something pretty special about starting your day like this.
📌 Save this for your Oʻahu itinerary and send it to someone who would get up early for a view like this!
