"Out of darkness & into light"

On a recent trip to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park I had a chance to take on a sunrise hike to Andrews Bald. I started out from the Clingman's Dome parking area and the fog was so thick that I was surprised I found the trail head so easily. Leaving just after the rain stopped I figured an hour for 1.7 miles would be easy work, but with the amount of wet rock and 1100'+ elevation change it was more that I had planned. I arrived and the view was still socked in with fog and clouds, but it made for a nice rest to enjoy the morning sounds of nature. After a couple short glimpses of mountains and a couple fog shots I decided to make the trip back. One great thing I like after a dark hike out is a return trip in the light and seeing the trail for the first time. With the amazing views I could not resist stopping for a few photos.

"Craig Branch"
New River Gorge
Fayetteville, WV

I recently took at trip to the gorge, with friends, and we visited a couple normally low water areas. The venture was tiring, but well rewarding and all the falls we photographed were all ones that I have not photographed before. This photograph is one of the many beautiful falls along Craig Branch. A day in the gorge is never disappointing and I am always looking forward to the next trip.

"Lake Arch"
Pickett State Park, TN

During a past trip some friends and I stopped by Pickett State Park to visit this arch. I must say it is one of my favorite arches that I have visited. We also visited one other arch in this Park. I am sure that one could find some other great jems with in the park. What a beautiful place just west of Big South Fork.

South Arch of Twin Arches - Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area, Oneida, TN.

It had been a while since I had been to Big South Fork and was glad to get back to take in the beauty. The massive arches at his location are incredible to see and well worth the 1.4 mile round trip. I shot the South Arch from the South Arch tunnel to try and get as much in the shot as possible. It is still hard to capture the enormous size if this arch with a span of 135 feet and a clearance of 70 feet. I am already looking forward to the next trip back here.

While on a photocation with friends we visited Meadow Creek Falls, in Wayne Co., KY. This is the final fall before making its way to Cumberland Lake. We had visited this fall before, but I wasn't happy with the results. I would have liked to been able to photograph the cascades again, but now there are signs that prevented me from doing so this time. This forced me to work the bottom more and glad I did to find this composition.

"Mudlick Falls" ,Paintsville, KY. Any time I am travelling through eastern Kentucky I never miss a opportunity to stop by Mudlick Falls. Mudlick has a couple nice falls and a couple small falls that are always pleasing to visit. I was able to make a recent visit on the way to meet friends for a photocation.

Had a great trip, this past weekend, to Cincinnati, Ohio. I was able to meet up with my "static brother" Bill Fultz for some waterfalling and cityscape photography. With Bill nailing the weather report we made the best out of the time we had at some amazing places. This particular photo was from Sharon Creek in Sharon Woods. This park has many things of nature to photograph and would also be a great for shooting portraits.

Spent last weekend shooting, with great friends, in the Highlands of West Virginia. We were blessed with perfect weather for a winter shoot. This chilling shot is a side view of the third fall on Shays Run.

I have been out of the picture(haha) for a bit and figured I would get back into it with a photo from Butcher Branch, in the New River Gorge. This is my version of it with a few edits and some digital Fultzing. This branch is so beautiful from top to bottom and I can't wait to get back there.

Set of photos from lower Marr Branch. As soon as I arrived on site the rain came but did not dampen my spirit. I played on the bottom fall for over an hour and it was still raining so hard that I decide not to make the climb up. The water level on the river was up so high that there was a constant roar messing with my mind. I can't wait to get back here after a good rain and finish what I started.

Cumberland Falls Sunset - After hiking from a couple photo locations the clouds were clearing and sun was dropping fast. I chose a non-traditional shot looking away from the sun and was blessed with a little reflective light on what clouds remained.

Here are several compositions, from Jock Falls, near Monticello, KY. These were taken last week while visiting the Cumberland area with friends. After stopping by Town Creek Falls Chris Morris and myself decided to creek walk the 1+ mile to Jock falls and I am so glad we did. This is one beautiful fall that you could work different comps on all day. The toughest shot was strait on looking upstream due to the massive width of this fall and the open foreground to get it all. Chris measured the width by laser and it was right around 120'. The trek to the falls was almost as interesting with all of the wildlife and wildflowers. The stream was a trout fisherman's dream as we passed hundreds of rainbow and brook trout. We also saw first hand how the Beaver Creek area got its name with all of the downed trees and works in progress from the beavers. I am looking forward to the next trip back to this and Town Creek Falls.
