I will be one of the photographers on this project - if you are interested in being involved - sign up! :)
We have a New Community Faces Announcement and a chance for women in our Community to participate!
We know that today is the 100th Anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment. However, we are also keenly aware that not all women were included in that expansion of rights due to legal barriers put in place to prevent them from casting their ballot.
Like the suffragists before them, strong Black women like Amelia Boynton Robinson and Fannie Lou Hamer continued to fight for their voices to count, and were catalysts for ensuring ALL women were heard at the ballot box. The passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 finally secured the right of all women to vote.
Today, we want to celebrate the work of the women before us, and we want to encourage all women to use their vote as their voice.
Two of The Big Camera’s Co-Owners, Donna Moore and Anna Lawrence, are teaming up with A1LabArts’s Co-Director, Sara Blair Mcnally, to install another mural project to encourage women to keep fighting for equality.
We want YOU for this project that we view as a small public service announcement to the women of our communities: Your Vote is Your Voice!
We welcome women of all backgrounds, of all socioeconomic standing, of all races, of all religions, and of all orientations. To ensure as many women as possible are represented, your portrait purchase will amplify the voice of another woman in our Community that can not pay to participate. All work by photographers, installers and creators is volunteer work; this is 100% a not for profit endeavor.
Your image will be 3’x3’ and displayed outside around Downtown businesses such as Crafty Bastard Brewery, Architectural Antics and more! We are still seeking businesses to allow us to install, so please reach out if you are interested. We can be reached at [email protected]
Photography dates will be announced in the coming week and will be outside at set time slots to ensure social distancing. ALL participants will be provided a brand new, white surgical mask for their image, and all participants must protect themselves and the artists by staying masked up!
If you would like to participate, the fee is $20 payable in advance by a ticket purchase. We will NOT be doing walk-up portraits at this time; you must buy a ticket to secure a time slot! Again, look for ticketing this coming week.
We are excited about this project and the chance to bring together women under the banner of Community Faces.
Your Vote is Your Voice!
