Mary Mason Photography Where photography and life meet, and memories last forever. Over time, my passion for photography, photo editing, and perfecting shots grew.
(203)

Mary Mason Photography is a dream born behind 110 film cameras at the young age of 6, and grew with me through life. I asked for a 35 mm single lens reflex camera on my 16th birthday, which unfortunately my parents couldn't afford. I met a lifestyle photographer here in TN and she inspired me to shoot for the stars through her own achievements. I bought a DSLR camera in February of 2010, and after

18 months of learning the trade, practicing, googling and YouTubing everything under the sun regarding photography, and studying other photographers, I finally allowed myself the title of professional photographer. This business has born my blood, sweat, tears, and so much more. I named it after my grandmother, who passed away when my mom was only seven. She hated having her photo made, so now my passion is very precious memories captured at an affordable price. I treasure every experience this business affords me, the clients I meet, and I pray you all continue to join me on this journey as I continue to learn, grow, and be the best I can possibly be!

Do you have a vision for your session? Bring it to me. It might stretch me outside of my comfort zone, but it will grow me, too. Josephine wanted night vibes/early evening for her session. I was internally freaking out. But, I studied up, prepped myself, looked over inspiration and said, "Let's do this thing." And honestly, I am proud of myself. I went outside of my box, my comfort zone, and found inspiration... if you want to see more of their session, check at my Tiktok at ...

When you get married in the Smokies and are coming up on a milestone anniversary, I highly recommend coming back to the Smokies and recreating those precious memories. That is what this couple did. What made this story even more special was their original photographer is one of my long time clients and friends! They were looking for her, and she ended up referring me! Being able to hold her images in my hand and recreate poses she created felt timeless to me. Think about it... every photograph in your home was created by someone who looked into a camera and captured what they saw. Every photo in your home is an extension of the person who captured it. Even a cellphone photo... someone looked into the lens, and created an image and you are seeing through their eyes. So, I felt transported back to their wedding day and felt as if I was standing in her place, looking through her lens. It was quite special and I was so incredibly blessed to be able to be there.

While sharing the first round of duck minis (which were less chaotic than the second round - my ducks weren't cooperative in round 2), I figured I would share how I acquired ducks and became a duck mom. If you love a good story time, stick around.

WELL, one day I was sent the exact same video by FIVE, count them, FIVE, totally different clients. So, me, being me... I decide to get ducks. It's what people wanted, right? Originally, I was just going to get two ducks. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy. But, then, my tender heart fell into the trap of "cute baby ducks" that were greatly reduced to $2 each at Tractor Supply, so I bought four. Then, it gets worse. My two white ducks were growing exponentially, because (this is a fun fact), Tractor Supply typically only carries JUMBO pekins. But, oh, it gets better...

So, then, as I am watching what was SUPPOSED to be cute, average sized ducks grow into these massively large beasts of a duck, I start to panic over the second round of duck minis coming up. Then, I think, "Aha! I will get MORE ducks!" So, I go and get two more ducks. Except, then, I randomly wander into Tractor Supply (it wasn't random, trust me) and see they have Welsh Harlequins.

Why are Welsh Harlequins important, Mary? See, I never considered myself a duck mom. Beaks scare the living daylights out of me (if you have ever been chased by a rooster, you understand). But, then I became a duck mom and I started researching and learning ALL about ducks. I fell in love with Welsh Harlequins because they have the prettiest feather patterns and quirky personalities. I wanted to add Welsh Harlequins to my ever growing flock... and so, Tractor Supply struck again and WON.

I wandered in empty-handed and wandered out carrying yet another red cardboard box with chirping cuties inside, much to my youngest daughter's chagrin.

So, now, if you ever do a session with me, just know my children, especially my youngest, feel I must be permanently banned from Tractor Supply, and I may start oversharing about my ducks. You're welcome!

These are the posts I hate to make, truly. Due to excessive increase in last minute cancelations and no shows, I will require full payment on all future minis in advance. Refunds will not be granted for cancelations, nor will I transfer retainers to a new session.

When a time slot is held for a mini, then canceled last minute, it prevents me from earning income. This is my actual job, and it pays my bills. When a mini is held, then canceled at the last minute or someone no shows, for me its like clocking in at work then not being paid for my shift because the moment I post a mini and bookings come in, I clock in and dont clock out until the final gallery is delivered.

I have been very kind about this but I do have to stand my ground because it truly is becoming unfair to me.

If problems continue with minis, I may have to address that and switch up what I offer in the future. This year will be a deciding factor.

Additionally, rates will go up across the board on October 1, 2026. The required retainer will now be half the session cost on standard sessions. If you already have something booked beyond October 1st, this will not impact that booking. It only impacts future bookings made on or after October 1, 2026.

I understand this may cost me some clients because some may feel called out, but I ASSURE you I am NOT calling anyone out. I am the sole income earner in my home so when my income is impacted, it can be detrimental for me due to not having a second income earner, so I just simply need to safeguard that.

Thank you for understanding.

Barn doors and pretty dresses will always hit right with me... and makes it come to life! The plan was to go to Max Patch but the weather and hiking for some of the guests changed Plan A to Plan B... then the weather changed Plan B to Plan C... my mantra with brides is "No wedding ever goes by its timeline..." and sometimes, you just have to PIVOT. All that matters at the end of the day is you married the love of your life!

Between the cookouts and sales and long weekends rests one truth - we are only able to do this because of those who have gone before us. The ones who stepped to the front lines and gave it all. Their sacrifice deserves to be remembered. Today, in the hustle and bustle, I encourage you to pause, reflect, and say a word of thanks and a prayer.
