6 years ago, we were too poor for Christmas decorations. But i made the most of it with cardboard stars covered in tin foil, handmade stockings, and a string of lights. It was our 1st christmas as a family, and despite the bare walls, it was such a special time.
Things have definitely changed for us over the last few years, but I still try to remember that the decorations aren't what make the season bright--it's the intention. The time spent making decorations is 100x more special than standing in line at the store with a cart full of plastic ones.
We still have the homemade stockings, and we have added pipe cleaner candy canes and bed sheet santa hats. This year, i drew us a christmas to-do list, framed it, and can use a dry erase marker for years of use.
So, i encourage you to slow down this christmas. There are so many amazing things you can make yourself, and if that isn't an option, there are countless small businesses eager to make your christmas special.
