Photo Collectors-This course has been downloaded, read, and (hopefully) put to good use all month. Now I need your help — and I have one more question for you.

Question 14 in my Collector Course asks: "What has the response been from people who live or work with your photographs every day?" It's a question about the return a collector gets long after the sale — the part no spec sheet or price list can capture.

I'd ask the same of this course. The course is on version 16, refined through internal review, but I want it tested against real experience. If you're an experienced collector, designer, or consultant: did I get it right? Is anything outdated, incomplete, or just wrong?

I'd rather hear "this needs fixing" from you than leave it uncorrected.

A collector's $18,000 photograph disappeared from her apartment. Her insurance denied the claim.

Context: Standard homeowners policies often exclude "mysterious disappearance", a real coverage gap most collectors don't discover until it's too late.

Question: "Has this artist's work been placed anywhere before?" It's one of the first questions a corporate buyer asks.

Context: Question 13 in my Collector Course covers exactly this: placement history in corporate collections, hospitality projects, and public spaces. It's proof the work performs at scale, not just on a gallery wall.

Trust signal: For interior designers and art consultants especially, this is the question that lets them defend a purchase to their own client or committee.

Post 6: Q12 — Pricing Transparency

95% of collectors say price transparency matters. Many photographers still won't give a straight answer.

Context: "What price range do your works fall in, and what factors influence the price of a given piece?" is question 12 in my Collector Course. If an artist dodges this, that's a red flag, not a negotiating tactic.

Trust signal: Clear pricing isn't a lack of exclusivity. It's what lets a collector, or their advisor, actually defend the purchase.

Question: Unlike a painting, a photograph can technically be reproduced forever. So why does scarcity still matter?

Context: "Do you work in editions, open editions, or unique prints — and why?" is question 9 in my Collector Course. The answer tells you whether a piece will hold its value, or whether a hundred more just like it could show up next year.

Trust signal: Manufactured scarcity isn't a trick in photography, it's the foundation of the medium's collectibility. Serious collectors ask this question before they ask about price.

Will the photograph you buy today still look the same in 30 years?

"How do you ensure the longevity and archival quality of your prints?" is question 4 in my Collector Course — and it matters more than most buyers realize. Papers, inks, and printing processes vary wildly, and so does how long a print actually lasts.

Collectors increasingly think about passing work to the next generation. A photograph you can't trust to last isn't something you can plan an estate around.
