Photographing bedrooms are my biggest challenge. Styling is difficult and time consuming, composition is challenging and regardless of how much time we spend, it rarely seems quite right.
I asked ChatGPT to assess the problem and provide solutions for better styling. Here is what it said:
——
Styling bedrooms for architecture shoots is way harder than it looks.
The bed takes up most of the frame. Yes.
Everything is soft. Ok.
Light gets absorbed instead of reflected. Sometimes.
And it has to feel effortless… without actually being effortless. Huh?
Too styled? It feels like a catalog. More often than not, this is the goal.
Too casual? It looks messy. Depends on the editorial spin.
Too cozy? The architecture disappears. Not sure about this.
Bedrooms are quiet spaces — and that means every wrinkle, every pillow choice, every object matters. Makes sense.
What helps:
• Neutral, matte linens (no sheen). OK.
• Fewer pillows than you think. Designers won’t like this ….
• One intentional layer for depth. OK.
• Clean, controlled nightstands. Yup.
• Steam everything. This is a big lift and a little fabric softener in the water helps …
• Style for the architecture, not the bedding. Unless you are shooting for the designer …
In the end, the goal isn’t to sell the bed.
It’s to reveal the space. Makes sense.

So Chat was somewhat helpful but not entirely. AI can assist. It can offer structure and ideas.
But refined styling decisions — the subtle edits, the balance, the restraint — still come from a trained eye.
Harmony Young brought that clarity to this shoot and elevated every room.
Technology helps. Talent wins.
