Preparing to bring in a 10 month 80 pound dog named Camo for a temporary foster situation to save him from being euthenized 😬
Here's what we know: hes a puppy still and is non reactive to dogs big and small just wants to play. Not sure how he is with cats, absolutely loves people and children.
Big dog.
Can clear a 4 foot fence with ease.
Separation anxiety from being moved around so many times and having no consistency.
No idea breed I didnt ask it doesnt matter.
On my end... my biggest dog Reaper is half his size and came with extreme issues. Which he has done phenomenal on 👏 but hes never interacted with a dog bigger than him. Ever. His most prized posession... me.
I have 4 cats inside at the moment.
2 rooms that can be closed off, 1 baby gate, and 2 large kennels.
So how am I going to make this work?
My dogs have gone through this before with other dogs just not one this big.
I set up the second largest kennel in the kitchen which is closest to the living room.
Both bedrooms are set up to be closed with cats inside.
The baby gate is set up between the living room and kitchen.
The largest kennel is in the living room.
I will be sleeping in the living room while Camo is here. So he doesn't feel abandoned or left behind at all, I do this for all fosters.
My 3 dogs will be in the kitchen area with access to the back bedroom. The kennel is in case my reactive dog needs it. Its his safe space and it keeps him safe. Its only used when needed which is rarely.
Camo will have the living room to himself with me. His kennel is again only if needed.
We will be cat testing Camo. In the event he is not cat safe they will be split into 2 pairs and locked in the bedrooms. (The girls don't always get along so they get split up if they need to be put away). Each bedroom has their litter, food, water and plenty of space.
Camo will be going from the front door to the backyard gate on a leash to go potty and play outside.
My dogs will go through the "backdoor" thats accessible from the kitchen.
Depending on Camos personality I may or may not introduce him to my 2 small 15 pounds or less dogs because they love big dogs and are alot more dog friendly.
Depending on reapers and camos response to each other I may introduce them but I am not holding high hopes for that probability based solely on Reaper.
My outdoor patio is set up in case my dogs need to stay outside for any period of time. And everyone will be getting a TON of treats to navigate their temporary family member.
His longer term foster mom has a 36 hour drive to get here and hasnt started yet. He will be here a couple nights but his stay with me is guaranteed short term. He will still need a home 🏡
If youre on along the drive from kern county, California to Tennessee and are looking to add in a new family member.. stay tuned for updates to see if hes a good fit for your family ❤️ he will be leaving California sometime this comming week.
I will be picking him up in less than 4 hours and will immediately start posting photos, videos and temperament information as I see it.
