I feel the need to share this because it really tugged at my heartstrings, especially after everything I experienced last year.

My mother was diagnosed with throat cancer early last summer. By the time my wedding season arrived, her health had significantly declined. I was helping transport and care for her while simultaneously balancing a fully booked fall wedding season and my own life.

By early December, when several of my fall wedding galleries were due, my mom took a sudden turn for the worse and was placed on hospice. Throughout all of this, I maintained open communication with my couples, shared updates through my business platforms, and was completely transparent about what I was navigating personally.

Unfortunately, instead of compassion, I was met with some of the most hostile, insincere, and hurtful messages I have ever received. One bride even told me that I had “ruined her Christmas” because her gallery was not delivered in time for her to give the photos as Christmas gifts.

Meanwhile, I was spending my Christmas watching my mother die.

I have been a professional photographer for six years. I take my business seriously. Your wedding day matters to me. Your memories matter to me. Your experience with me matters to me.

But I am also a human being first.

I could never imagine seeing someone going through the most devastating season of their life and responding with anger, hostility, or entitlement because a timeline had changed.

I also want to emphasize that I provide 50+ images in my sneak peeks, so my couples already have a significant collection of memories to enjoy while I carefully finish the remainder of their galleries. Those two galleries were delivered late, but they were delivered. The delay happened while I was suddenly thrust into the role of medical power of attorney, navigating my mother’s end-of-life care, and ultimately handling her passing and estate.

I will never forget the people who chose to cut me down during one of the darkest moments of my life and then demanded a refund for a product that was ultimately delivered.

That experience changed the way I approach my business.

Moving forward, my contracts will continue to clearly state that if something significant and unforeseen happens in my personal life, I reserve the right to step away and handle those circumstances without harassment or intimidation.

Last year taught me the importance of making sure my clients and I are the right fit for one another. Hiring someone for a service does not give you the right to belittle, intimidate, harass, or dehumanize them.

Behind every small business is a person. Behind every photographer is a human being with a family, struggles, responsibilities, and a life outside of the work they provide.

I will always strive to give my couples the very best experience possible. But I will also never again apologize for being human. ❤️

An engagement session in the place where it all feels a little more like home. ❤️ Worthington gave us the sweetest backdrop; cobbled brick streets, grand churches glowing with stained-glass windows, and charming little shops and cafés tucked throughout the neighborhood.

The sunshine was absolutely perfect, but honestly, nothing compared to the chemistry between these two. ☀️💍 Their love made every corner of Worthington feel even a little more magical.
