I will be available to do grad minis 4/21 - 5/1 on Kent State’s Kent campus. Here are the details:

Happy New Year!!! I’m so excited for another year of J.O. Photo Co. I want to give a huge thank you to all of my 2024 clients. This really is my dream job, and you all are the reason that I get to do it. I’ve spent 2024 documenting your marriages, engagements, graduations, new additions to your families, your growing businesses, and those “just because we love each other” moments. Thank you for inviting me in and letting me help you celebrate the one crazy and precious life we all get. It has been a blessing and I’m so excited to keep doing it.

In the day to day moments I often catch myself comparing myself to others, wising I was doing more, and dwelling on the fact that I’m not yet where I want to be. That’s the kind of silliness that I’m going to try and leave in 2024. It’s been 4 years since I started charging money for photoshoots and a year and a half of being a full time freelancer with a “for real” LLC. When I take a step back and look at all of the progress that’s been made year to year I am filled with gratitude and blown away by God’s faithfulness. He is the reason that I step hopefully into 2025.

This is proof that you don’t have to sacrifice a huge chunk of your reception time for golden hour photos! A lot of people really really love those delicious, warm, glowy, golden hour wedding photos. AND when I’m doing consultations I find that a lot of couples I talk to are concerned about taking time away from family and friends at the reception to be in front of the camera. I totally get it! Your wedding is probably one of the only times in your life you’re going to have everyone you love in one spot. I want you to be able to soak in every second you have with your favorite people on such an important day.

I think this is one of those times where you really can have it all. The truth is I only need a couple minutes to make some magic happen. I usually sneak couples out while guests are finishing their dinner and I have them back before anyone really notices they were gone! For Steven and Haley’s wedding, we were only outside for about 10 minutes and in that time they ended up getting about 20 additional photos that they’re going to love for a lifetime. Afterward they told me they did not regret it and were so happy they had the golden hour photos.

I was scrolling through my camera roll today and found these self portraits from our anniversary last year 🥹 I totally forgot we did these. This was such a sweet way for us to spend some time together and celebrate 3 years of marriage. Not that you ever neeeeed an excuse to book a photo shoot with your person. But anniversaries are a great reason.
