BOOM! It’s official. The Automatic women have been invited to race the Philadelphia Cycling Classic!! The UCI 1.1 event is the highest level international race in the US this season and we’ll get to see Philadelphia’s very own Kim Stoveld along with powerhouse teammates Arielle Verhaaren, Ivanie Blondin, Emily Singleton, Farah-Dale Morris, and Jenna Nestman absolutely send it against the best teams in the world.

Root, root, root for the home team at Lemon Hill on August 30th and GET LOUD to help spur these legends on to a top of the podium finish, champagne showers, and eternal glory!

Today’s photo from the archives is of Matt Mcloone, who is as phenomenal a mechanic as he is a racer, and with 21 career wins, that’s saying a lot! He’s a bicycle diagnosing wizard and will solve your bike related problems with a smile on his face.

Thank you for going out of your way to keep my bikes in tip top shape at Cadence on Main Street in Manayunk. You’re a crucial spoke in the wheel of the SEPA cycling community, and you are appreciated!

This photo is from the start line of the 2023 Bucks County Classic in Doylestown, PA! I’m posting a photo from the archives every day until I race again!

When an old college wrestling teammate comes to Philly to headline a sold out show at Milkboy and wants photos, it’s a hell yes (idk how many Flamingosis fans know he wrestled D1 before shifting his focus to music)!

Thrilled to see you thriving! Outstandingly groovy show, the place was jumping and it was an honor to photograph you in your element! You and crushed from start to finish and owned the moment.

Photo credit to for the last photo of Flamingosis and I getting back to our F&M Wrestling roots 🤣

Even cold, gray, and wet days can feel warm with an all out effort, a victory, and a community full of support.

Mallory McDermott celebrates with friends after winning her race (by 23 seconds! 💨💨💨) at the Philadelphia Navy Yard in April of 2025.

I recently saw an old photo of a women’s race in which one racer had long hair blowing freely in the wind. It struck me as odd because it made me realize that in the modern era (with wind tunnel data being freely available online), we just don’t see women’s racers with long hair letting it fly anymore. Even ponytails are rare, with women adopting the more aero braid or, faster still, a tight bun. To race bikes at a high level is to be in constant pursuit of marginal gains, and tucking hair away is one of the easiest to be had.

Then it hit me that there *are* still racers letting it fly: the men. What is lost in drag can be made up for in swag, and this photo of Andy Wolfe at the start line of the 2025 Bucks County Classic is evidence enough: sometimes the flow is worth the watt penalty.

With today’s photo from the archives, we’re throwing it wayyyyy back to the 2019 Benchmark West Chester Twilight Crit, where Colavita/Bialetti had themselves a night! Colavita/Bialetti took home the USA Crit Series Team Category with Natalia Franco Villegas taking the Best Young Rider crown (gray jersey). Hagens Berman | Supermint and DNA also finished the series on the team podium, concluding a hard fought battle after excellent seasons.

Follow for more little bits of origin stories of familiar faces in the sport as I continue posting a photo from the archives every day until I race again!
