Tucked away in boxes, albums, drawers, and attics are photographs, letters, military medals, recipes, and keepsakes that tell the story of the people who came before us. These aren’t just old objects. They’re pieces of your family’s legacy.

This Saturday, I’m honored to be partnering with Delaware Historical Society to help families preserve the stories that matter most through the Delaware Community Preservation Lab in Cheswold.

Bring your family photographs, documents, and treasured heirlooms, and we’ll help you create free digital copies while sharing practical ways to preserve the originals for generations to come.

Whether it’s your grandparents’ wedding photo, a parent’s military medals, or handwritten letters that have been in your family for decades, this is a wonderful opportunity to ensure those memories aren’t lost to time.

As we reflect on Juneteenth this weekend, I’m reminded of the power of freedom, opportunity, and the stories that shape who we are.

On June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed, the last enslaved African Americans in Texas learned of their freedom. Juneteenth stands as both a celebration of freedom and a reminder that progress often requires persistence, courage, and action.

At 1865 studios, this date carries special meaning. Our name is rooted in the year 1865, a pivotal moment in American history that marked the end of slavery and the beginning of new possibilities for millions of people. It serves as a constant reminder that every person has a story worth telling, a voice worth hearing, and a future worth investing in.

As I continue building 1865 studios and helping create pathways for the next generation through mentorship, creative education, and storytelling, I’m grateful for the opportunity to help people share their stories, preserve their legacies, and be seen for who they truly are.

This weekend, I hope you’ll join me in honoring the resilience, contributions, and achievements of Black Americans throughout our nation’s history, while reflecting on the work that continues to build stronger communities and greater opportunity for all.
