Connor and I took the boat into Prince William Sound, based out of the Paulson Bay recreation.gov cabin in Cochrane Bay, and spent our days doing what we do best: making a loose plan and seeing where the water takes us. Squid, coves, glassy runs, and a brand new Insta360 X4, with a major learning curve to edit.

Two weeks later, I had a heart attack that put Alaska Nomad on a long, unplanned hiatus.

So yeah, this trip means something to me now that it didn't fully mean then.

I wrote up an honest opinion of the Insta360 X4: the good, the bad, and why I eventually sold it. The x5 is supposed to be better, but you can try it for yourself...

Fresh Beach Snow & Ice

Alaska winter meets Cook Inlet on Salamatof Beach, Kenai/Nikiski, AK 🌊❄️
My DJI Mini Pro 4 lifts off and drops down into a short stretch of coastline in Alaska. Fresh snow, ice, open beach, and rolling waves meet at the edge of Cook Inlet, where I fly slowly southward along the dividing line between winter and water.

Ever heard of an Ice Shove? Ice shoves on Cook Inlet are when extreme cold and big tides push massive slabs of ice up onto the beach. Drone video from my DJI Mini Pro 4 of how it looks afterward.

When temperatures drop and the tides start moving, Cook Inlet puts on one of Alaska's winter shows — massive walls of ice shoved right up onto the beach.
