Last night,
With the permission & generousity of the WK&S Railroad, I was able to capture some amazing images of the Northern Lights. If you haven't rode already, they're one of the best little tourist railroads around, offering amazing experiences throughout the year including wine & cheese, Oktoberfest, BBQ, and Santa trains to name a few.

Last night I spent some time sorting through the unedited photos in my Lightroom account, and found these. Most are from 2019, back when the signal removal project on the PITL was in full swing. In addition to the signals disappearing, numerous changes were happening on the NS roster. The SD60E trio was a 536 PPLX unit coal train with the one of the first trains using the newly modified SD60E's after NS retired the SD60I's as they phased out the older Conrail power. Also included is one of the last shots I ever took of an SD80Mac leading a train before they too were shipped out to pasture.

While we haven't discovered time travel afaik, photos like this really feel like they turn back the clock. Doing what she was intended to do on home rails, Norfolk & Western class J 4-8-4 # 611 stomps up the grade through Villamont on the way back to Roanoke, July 5th, 2015. To this day, it's still one of my favorite trips with some of the most amazing friends, it was a long day for a trip from Altoona & return, but it was worth it.

The one & only Union Pacific Big Boy thunders across the plains on the way to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This was the highlight of a weeklong trip to the Midwest that took place thanks to a great friend that wanted to see 4014, but needed help planning the chase, and other railfan activities in the Chicago area. When I can, I'll share more from this trip, most of it's just your routine Metra racetrack, and whatnot, but still cool nonetheless!

Saturday night, a friend gave me a heads up about this coming though, so while visiting family in State College once again, I made the trek to Fairhope to shoot P30-30 yesterday morning. A couple points of interest, 331 isn't even pictured on Google yet, if you attempt to Google Amtrak 331, you get a bunch of F40PH shots (which hits me right in the feels, makes me feel old), 301 of course is wearing the "Day One" scheme made famous for the debut at the Enola Diesel Shop during the beginning of Amtrak, and finally.. bringing up the rear is a former California Zephyr dome on its' way to WMSR
