And so it begins. 🇺🇸🥾

Tonight is all about the groundwork. Measuring, setting straight lines, marking everything out and getting the field ready so our volunteers can hit the ground running at 7:00 AM.

Tomorrow, we begin laying out the boots and bringing the Boot Memorial to life, one row at a time, one name at a time.

We need trucks, helping hands, your own water source, and people ready to work hard! Bring your energy, bring your heart, and come ready to make this happen.

Every straight line we set tonight is preparing a place to honor someone who served.

7:00 AM. Let’s get to work. Let’s make this memorial happen. 🇺🇸❤️🤍💙

Tonight’s moonrise 🌕📸

I was really hoping for clear skies tonight, but the clouds had other plans. Turns out, I’m not mad about it at all. They added so much mood and drama to the images.

The first shot is a close-up of the moon just as it began rising through the clouds. I love the detail and the warm glow peeking through.

The second is one of my favorite views of the night: the moon over the water with Diamond Head in the distance and the city lights along the shoreline. For this image, I photographed the landscape and moon separately tonight and composited my close-up moon into the scene so I could preserve the detail that would otherwise be lost in a single exposure.

The third is the same beautiful landscape, but with a plane passing through the frame at just the right moment. Sometimes you simply get lucky with timing. ✈️🌕

Not the perfectly clear moonrise I had envisioned, but sometimes the clouds make the photograph. ❤️📸
