Can I be honest? I'm gonna be honest and open here: I don't know how to best post about Juneteenth.

I like to think I'm seasoned enough to say I absolutely support our friends of color and honor the premise of the day: Juneteenth is a time to honor Black history, celebrate freedom, and reflect on the ongoing fight for civil rights and racial equality in the United States.

I also know and recognize it is my responsibility to educate myself on Juneteenth- it is not up to my black friends to have to tell me what I can or should do to show support, so I'm kind of winging it here with the knowledge I have.

We are so far from equality. This country was built on the backs of enslaved people and somehow most of us today have benefited from the terrible atrocities that happened to these people, if only indirectly at best.

I just want everyone scrolling to know that at Stag & Bird we stand beside you and with you: regardless of ethnicity, color, creed or orientation. You are welcome and are with us. We recognize the significant, ongoing harm caused by systemic racism and historical inequities in our communities. We’re committed to changing that by listening, learning and changing to build a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable culture; and by becoming a stronger, more effective advocate and partner in dismantling inequitable systems.

But today, today we celebrate our melanated friends and their many accomplishments, culture and livelihoods.

Well, helllllo there. We're not sure what happened in the last 24 hours. No new ads. No promotions. Not even a post... but somehow we are being well loved with inquiries about renting Electric Light Studios KC right now. Ten requests just yesterday alone.

By popular demand I will pull some dates from my family time for weekend portraits in 2026. 📆

We are trying really hard to meet folks where they are at with schedules and I understand not everyone can plan for weekends that early. I also understand I only have about 54 weekends with my kids between now and them starting to move out and I will not be playing with that time unless someone is paying for that time.

The fee for a premium portrait date on Saturday or Sunday for the remainder of 2026 is $950 plus session fees.

Please remember: we are booking well in advance. Portrait work weekdays with both Court & Lauren are booking about two-to-three weeks out, if booking professional styling through we need six weeks lead time from booking to session date.

We are booking well into October now for weekdays. Please remember we have clients book October dates as early as April 1 - and you can always book seniors, bo***ir, portraits and branding up to six months in advance, with weddings up to 18 months (I love all you October 2028ers though). 🖤

If they wanted to, they would.

Dani was planning this proposal for a YEAR. She contacted me a YEAR AGO to make sure I was available for her girl because Jade said she wanted us as a photographer in passing... and Dani delivered.

Not all plans go without hiccups, we found out just an hour before that her planned location wasn't available any more so we had to pivot.

Minutes later I was rolling up my entry way rug, pulling boxes of candles from my basement and literally ripping flowers out of my front yard to create a magical space for these two at an unplanned, alternative location. When I heard Jade exclaim "this is so beautiful!" I screamed and jumped with excitement inside. What can I say? We're cool under pressure.

We are so thrilled for our new friends Dani & Jade - wishing you both a lifetime of joy and happiness together.
