Video compilation of the photos previously posted.

Another photo dump that tells a story. A mature bald eagle is feasting on a snow goose as a younger eagle, approximately 1 1/2 years old, looks on. The mature eagle starts plucking the goose's feathers, and suddenly another eagle, approximately 2 1/2 years old, flies in and confidently trudges toward the mature eagle. While the mature eagle takes off, the younger one tries to take the goose away from the intruding eagle but doesn't get far. The mature eagle returns after the intruder takes the goose and then flies a short distance with the goose in its talons. Shot at Loess Bluffs NWR, Missouri, New Year's Day, 2026.

Two beautiful bald eagles coming in for a landing. First, the mature eagle glides in, then a 1 1/2 to 2 year-old eagle flies in. Both stuck the landing in grand style on the ice. New Year's Day, Loess Bluffs NWR.

This sequence of photos tells the story of a female eagle discovering a fresh snow goose near the shore and claiming it before another eagle does. This is the same eagle from the previous battle photos I posted, defending her meal. Here she walks toward the goose soon after she flies in to claim it, then a few minutes later she hauls it farther away from the shore. She calls out, seemingly as a warning to others. Then in one photo she fights off a challenger, claims victory, and proceeds to feast on the snow goose. Shot at Loess Bluffs NWR, New Year's Day, 2026. What a day!

New eagle images just dropped on my website, furandfeathersphotography.com. Get a print, canvas, tote bag, and more!

This was the same female eagle from my previous videos at Loess Bluffs NWR as she soared in to claim a fresh snow goose kill that may have been dropped earlier. She got so close it was a challenge to follow her and keep her in frame.

From photos I posted previously, but I did lighten the images a bit.

Epic battles on the ice! This is a compilation of successive photos I took of a female eagle warding off two other eagles who wanted in on her snow goose meal lying nearby. I did tight crops of each image to show the true power of these amazing birds of prey. She battled each within a few minutes of each other and came out victorious with an even more epic slide back to her meal.

Some of these images are now available on my website for purchase!

Second video of the female eagle with her goose. Have you ever heard an eagle call? That cool screech you hear in movies supposedly depicting an eagle's call is actually a red-tailed hawk. Eagles don't sound quite as majestic. She decided to move the goose farther from the road, but another eagle was just waiting to get to it. It was not her mate.

Video of a female eagle who claimed a fresh goose at Loess Bluffs NWR. Watch as she does the penguin walk toward the goose and starts feeding. It was so close to the road you can hear cars passing by. I posted pics of her fighting off two interlopers previous to this post. She's a beauty...and fierce!

Part 2:

I went to Loess Bluffs NWR New Year's Day, and oh my goodness. There were more eagles than I could imagine. The count two days prior put out by the refuge said 1,012 eagles! Despite the fact there were also gazillions of people there, I was able to capture images I could only dream of. This is the second of two fights a female eagle got into as she warded off others from a dead goose she claimed for herself. All the action happened close to the shoreline, so I didn't have to crop much for these images. I knew if I waited, other eagles would fly in for the goose, too, but I couldn't imagine capturing these amazing fights on the ice. I could hear the eagles sliding across the ice as I watched in amazement, and if you zoom in, you can see they also locked talons.
