I really hate that I even have to make a post like this, but I feel like it needs to be said.

Since trying to start and build my small business here in KC, I’ve had 4 different people attempt the exact same scam on me. And honestly, it’s frustrating. You get excited when someone reaches out interested in your business, you start thinking, “Okay, maybe this is finally picking up,” only to realize they were never genuine to begin with.

So please, let this be a warning to other small businesses: Venmo will NEVER ask for your email address to send you money. You can even pass the phone number verification. There is absolutely no reason to give out personal information beyond your Venmo tag when someone is paying you.

I’m sharing this because I don’t want anyone else falling for it — especially someone who is just starting out and genuinely trying to make something of their business.

Please stop getting people’s hopes up just to take advantage of them. Building something from the ground up is hard enough.

Let’s be better people. Let’s be smarter. And for once, let’s have each other’s backs. ❤️

Sometimes you try… and it doesn’t go quite the way you hoped. ❤️

My recent mini session didn’t get the sign-ups I was hoping for. And honestly, that’s okay. Between the timing, the season of life, and still being new to the Kansas City area, I know building a photography business and a new community takes time.

But I’m not giving up. 📸

I’m still working toward making photography something I can truly build for myself here in Kansas City, and sometimes that means trying something, learning from it, and trying again.
