Spotted this male American Redstart singing up a storm. It’s pitch is so high I could barely hear it (that can happen as you get older). The Redstart is a warbler, so it hops around in the trees looking for insects and doesn’t stay still very long.

We got to watch the Osprey fishing earlier this week. He circled around and plunged into the lake after a fish. Unfortunately, it came out empty taloned. Here’s a series of photos of the attempt.

Just another view of the cygnets. A third mute swan was on the lake today and the couple with the cygnets did not care to have it around. There was a lot of chasing about.

Wow!

Wow!

Heaven on Earth in Monument Valley!
After three years of drought in the southwest, a winter full of rain and snow brought the desert to life!

IT’S NOT OVER! Christina Anderson, City Planner and Deputy Director of Community Planning and Economic Development for the City of Kalamazoo said “The two properties in question are being removed from the City-wide Commercial Zoning Code and Map Update to consider appropriate zoning options for the sites” in an April 25 news release. That means the fight is not over. There will be future considerations and a continued push by the owner to find a loophole that allows the carwash to go in by Asylum, just like he did in Milwaukee.

There are two more important meetings this week.
* Wednesday, 5/3, 6-7:3PM, Dormouse Theater at Lake & Portage Streets-Edison, Last of The City of Kalamazoo, Michigan Public Meetings about the proposed zoning changes, some of which also might affect your neighborhood too.
* Thursday, 5/4, 7PM, City Hall, Planning Commission meets to hear more about proposed zoning changes and Public Comment time so come and speak to protect Asylum Lake, etc. Plus, check the maps for your own area. https://www.facebook.com/100067950078047/posts/561076142834050/?mibextid=RQdjqZ

I guess there are pike in Asylum Lake. It does appear, on closer examination, that there may have be a fish inside the pike. So stuffed pike? 🤣
