I’m naturally the photographer in our family and by trade too, obviously.

My husband? He’s got all the epic photos with the kids. (I really need to train him to use my camera.)

Do I love being in front of the camera? Absolutely not. I’ll take posing you over posing me any day. But when it’s family photo time for my family, I want to feel good and comfortable, so I always pick my outfit first and dress everyone else around me.

For the one who’s usually behind the camera, this is your moment to be in the memories. You don’t have to be the star, just someone who finally gets to share the frame (and maybe prove you do, in fact, exist in family photos. Selfies don’t count!)

Loving this mom’s nearly backless purple dress. Absolute perfection! Not that you can see the rest of the family well, but their outfits and color scheme complement her dress. I just love this angle, her glance back, and the soft lighting - felt like a “mom spotlight” moment was the way to go. You get the idea. 💜

Sometimes the best photos happen when you forget the camera is even there. Those in-between moments, when no one is paying attention, are often the ones that feel the most real.

This session was mostly just them, being at a place they love and doing what they love. I grabbed a few posed shots and called out for smiles, low-key worried someone might slip off a rock… lol! But honestly, it felt more like hanging out than a photoshoot, and that was exactly the goal.

That’s what I love most. The candid, story-filled moments hold their own kind of magic, and so do the more polished portraits. Both are beautiful in their own way, and the best part is choosing what feels right for your family right now.

You want to know the most common question I get asked lately (and probably a fair question given my inconsistency on social media)… “Hey, are you still taking photos?”

I’m never offended by it because I get it. Lol! Truth is, posting my own work feels harder than creating content for the two other businesses I manage on social media. Make it make sense.

But today, it felt right and I couldn’t resist sharing this adorable family during one of the creamiest dreamsicle sunrise sessions I’ve had in a while.

This mama has been one of my biggest supporters throughout my journey as a photographer. She’s been a best friend, muse, model and photo adventure buddy. She has gone along with my crazy ideas without even questioning me. Lol! It has always been a joy to photograph her over the years and watch her evolve into the person she is today. ⁣

So many personal changes, growth, happy memories made and also navigating such unexpected grief and sadness. Life is hard sometimes but I’m so appreciative of what each day brings and the constant love and happiness I have in my life. ⁣

One of the best parts about photographing families is truly watching how their personalities come through during a session. ⁣⁣

If you’re anything like me and need a minute to warm up, I totally get it. This is why I rarely offer mini sessions, in my opinion, they’re just too short for those magic moments.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
And if you’re smiling through your teeth, all while threatening your child to smile, again, I get it. Most of us have been there! Lol! The key is to have fun, your littles will usually follow your lead.

Sunshine mixed with a little coffee and I’m ready to go! ☕️ ⁣⁣

But for real - I am by no means a morning person, I never have been and I don’t see myself becoming one in the future. But hey when you have kids that all changes right? You have to adjust. My children love to wake up at the crack of dawn. So therefore I’m “up” with them but what’s really happening is, I’m on the couch half asleep. Functioning enough to parent but also I might “rest” my eyes a little. That’s how I’ve “adjusted.” 😂 ⁣

Oh but a client schedules a sunrise shoot? I’m there with coffee, bright eyed and ready to go. Life is funny huh?! Does this make me a bad parent? Lol! ⁣

I love an epic morning with clients, especially this family here. Talk about waking up early, this mom had her hair and makeup done, made it to their sunrise session on time, in her last trimester and her toddler was dressed and ready to go. Oh and they had just gotten off a 6 hour flight, less than 24 hours before. Talk about impressive and she looked incredible. 🙌🏽

Two little loves at the exact same time was so much fun! The girls were incredibly mellow and so sweet. They just went along with all of our photo shenanigans. Lol! I’m always in awe of twin parents, you all are just amazing! 💕
