On Sunday Dec 20th, 2020 Halemaʻumaʻu roared back to life. This pit crater is located within the Kīlauea volcano on Hawai'i Island aka The Big Island.

Though Kīlauea has been mostly quiet since the end of the 2018 eruptions, there's been an increase in activity lately including several earthquakes in the area.

I took this photo over 10 years ago and have had the opportunity to see this crater in many different stages of eruption. It's always an incredible and humbling experience to see her awakening again.

The last major eruption on this island caused much amazement but also much heartache with hundreds of homes and cherished landmarks being devoured by acres of lava.

Lets remember to be safe, and respectful of the many and ever changing dynamics of this powerful event.

Still scanning through the archives finding little gems I'd forgotten about.
This image is one of my all time favorites which is funny because it was rarely ever purchased in my gallery and didnt get much attention on social media when I originally posted.
It's amazing how often we value ourselves in relation to others views of us. (Which are never accurate) How many likes a post gets or whether we receive praise for it. Seems this time in our lives is a perfect time to reflect on what we value about ourselves. To look inwardly and focus on creating our happiness as opposed to seeking validation.
It's been awhile since I've sat with myself this much. And its been to look at these images again with a new perspective.
This image is one of my faves because it simply came out exactly as I'd envisioned. So often when shooting the final result wasnt planned, is slightly different than the vision or ends up just being a happy accident. .
But this day I saw the shot I hoped for combining the opposing negative space of the sand and the water and placed these two freedivers right on the line adding contrast to the image and nailed it after a couple of snaps. The moment I clicked the shutter I knew I had the image imagined. And that's honestly more rare than youd expect.
