The only way to announce you’re tying the knot, if you ask me.
Every time I photograph an engagement session, my goal is to help my couples think beyond a traditional photoshoot and create something that feels like them. Something that reflects their story, their season of life, and the little things that make their relationship unique.
Vicky and Phil had just moved into their new home, complete with a beautiful backyard that has quickly become their favorite place to spend time together. Phil grills a mean steak, Vicky loves relaxing poolside, and evenings often end with a game of dominoes or cards.
So we built a moment around exactly that. Personalized dominoes with their future last name, cards by the pool, steak on the grill, and of course, a touch of 70s-inspired nostalgia woven throughout the evening.
What started as an engagement session quickly felt more like hanging out with friends on a summer evening. By the end of the night, we were all sitting down to dinner together with their moms, sharing stories and enjoying one more moment before the sun disappeared.
I’d say this is what it’s all about. Genuine connection with people who quickly start to feel like family. Stepping into their world for a little while, immersing myself in their story, and documenting this season of life exactly as it felt.
