While central Switzerland is most known for other cities such as Interlaken and Lauterbrunnen, if you have a chance it’s definitely worth taking a day trip to Lucerne. At around 2 hours from Interlaken via train the journey alone takes you through beautiful stretches of land across mountains and a few lakes. Once there, the town itself is very walkable with the train station being very central to many historic spaces and shops. Crossing the bridge you can find the old town and all of the preserved architecture and artwork on the exterior buildings lining the city square. We were also fortunate that all throughout the town square there were several stands with food, jewelry, and artwork which added even more to the environment. If you have a half day free and are planning on being in the area, add Lucerne to your itinerary!
