There’s something pretty special about photographing a family in a place with so much history woven into it. 🤍

This session took me back to one of my favorite spots at Hickory Run State Park — Saylorsville.

The area dates back to the 1830s, when logging and sawmills brought the region to life. By 1839, there were six mills along Hickory Run, and the old stagecoach road through Saylorsville eventually became what we now know as Stage Trail. Today, you can still find foundations and other traces of the town throughout the park.

In 1849, several dams broke, flooding Saylorsville and Hickory Run and taking at least seven lives. It’s incredible to think about the stories held by the same trails and landscapes where we now gather to make new memories. 🤍

This family session at their Airbnb was filled with laughter, endless energy, and so much fun. My favorite part? Ending the session with the kids jumping into the pool fully clothed to cool off from the summer heat. 💦 Those spontaneous moments always make for the sweetest memories.
