Framing matters more than bokeh (blurry background) in portrait photography because it controls how a viewer reads the image. Strong framing directs attention to the subject’s expression, body language, and relationship to their environment.

Thoughtful composition uses lines, space, and perspective to create balance and emotional impact, something shallow depth of field alone can’t achieve. Bokeh may separate a subject from the background, but without intentional framing, the portrait feels empty or distracting.

A well-framed portrait works at any aperture, telling a clearer story and creating connection. In the end, framing shapes meaning, while bokeh is just a stylistic accent.

Bokeh is the icing, not the cake.

It was busy evening of Instant Photography using the Instant Wide camera. Its great to use at events and better than a photoboth since you can be on the move and shoot anywhere in the venue.
