The final Goonies stop was here at Goat Rock Beach where the closing scene on the beach was shot... It's a bit of a journey from Astoria, only 700 miles.. no problem on some bmx bikes... movie magic...

Then it was off to Point Reyes Lighthouse. And of course, my impeccable timing, but of course it was closed. Why wouldn't it be?

But there is always a story. I'm not going to confess to anything on social media. But it may or may not have something to do with speeding and not getting a ticket. 😂

Back to the 101 and running through the hills. And to my amazement, a bigfoot tourist trap! Just had to stop and get a pic with the big fella.

I covered a lot of ground today. Didn't stop as much as I should have, but I enjoyed every minute of it.

I will recommend to anyone, get off the 101 and take the Avenue of the Giants (Hwy 254) and follow it full length. It's only about 30 miles. But, worth every minute.

Stopped off at the Chandelier Tree. I've always heard about this place. However, I remember the drive through being bigger in the pictures. Whatever, I still drove through a friggin tree though.

Pulled into the Point Arena Lighthouse as they were closing up. I had to promise I was only going to be 2 minutes for a quick pic and bounce. So, this is all I got.

Drove a few more miles into Gualala Point and found a campsite.

Where I engaged in an epic battle of wit, determination, and fortitude. Those fu***ng trash pandas are relentless..... Raccoons Jon.. trash pandas are raccoons. Hahahaha

After stuffing myself with cheese at the Tillamook Creamery... and took some with me for snacks along the way. I set out along the coastal roads. Meeting up shortly with the 101.

I shacked up for the night in a little fishing village called Wi******er Bay, that had an awesome seafood platter.

Back on the road early. Stopping to take many pictures. The coastal highway is definitely worth the trip. I crossed into California and headed a bit inland to get my first look at the redwoods.

That night, I slept amongst the giants.

After spending most of the day in Astoria, it was a quick, very quick, ride down the coast to Seaside. Hey.. It may have only been a 30 minute ride, but that's still making headway.

The monument marks the end of the Lewis and Clark trail.

Great spot to watch the sunsets on the beach.

Astoria, Oregon.. Of course I was going here for The Goonies. Hey you guys!!

First stop was the Flavel House Museum. Built in 1884 for Captain George Flavel. A Columbia River bar pilot. The architecture back then still amazes me. The skills and craftsmanship is beyond anything out there today.

Then I quietly visited the the Goonies house where Chunk had to do the truffle shuffle.

Quick stop for some coffee, whom the owner just happened to have a beautiful vintage Triumph in the back. Drink coffee, talk motorcycles, was awesome.

Then up the hill to the Astoria Column with some incredible views. Some twisted individual had an epic idea of giving children little balsa airplanes that they can throw from the top of the column. And of course a parent had to accompany them up the 164 steps, over, and over, and over. hahaha A couple of the planes "crashed" too hard and broke. But the column represents the history of the people and the natural riches the Pacific Northwest provides.

Quick drive out Jetty Road. Beautiful day to look out across the Pacific and past the curvature.

Well hello again.. I suppose I should catch up with the picture posting. Been a minute..

Cool shot leaving the Portland area. Chilly morning and the fog being highlighted from the sun through the trees. It all made for some really cool scenery as I headed to Astoria.

I'll keep my opinions about Portland to a minimum. But a solid week of carpet bombing followed by some na**lm to sterilize the area would be a great place to start. The rest of Oregon, you're cool.

In all of my travels, running through Mexico, Central America, parts of S. America, that I had absolutely no sane reason to be traveling through because of some locals with certain group affiliations, I have never been that nervous, sketched out and on heightened alert than I was when I was walking around Portland.

I couldn't get out of that place quick enough. I had the bike serviced just outside of Portland and made my way up to Astoria.

Been covering some ground last couple of days. After the Salt Flats, rolled into Winnemucca, only because of a song. I've been everywhere man.

Stopped by Lovelock cave with Piute tales of killing cannibalistic giants, winter shelter, equipment storage pits, and duck decoys older than 2000 years. Fascinating history in that little spot. I had a couple of pictures, but they weren't really all that good and didn't show much. There isn't much light in the cave and I didn't have a flashlight with me.

Blew past Reno and headed North. Finally called it a late night in Klamath Falls.

The next morning it was off to Crater Lake National Park.

Finally made it to the Bonneville Salt Flats. This place has been on my list for a very long time. Albeit, definitely the wrong time of the year to see any speed runs. But the reflections were quite impressive.

And don't you mind the crater in the background. Or the packed off tires. I thought I was far enough away from the water and it was dry. Well, I found a wet spot. And let me tell you, that s**t is greasy. Could barely stand up in it.

Spent a nice couple days in Nebraska, with my awesome cousin Jackie, her 3 kids, her dad, and her mom and her husband.

Funny story. I was leaving on the bike and the kids were down the street at a garage sale. So, I rode down there. Full gear, helmet on and ready to leave. I toot the horn, they come over, line up to give me a hug. Then some random kid just got into line and waited his turn to hug the motorcycle guy. hahaha

Mad dash to Denver area to see some friends there. Definitely not enough time.

Then down to the Springs to see my god-daughter. Just an overnight stay. New house, new husband and new puppy. I got to meet his dad. Super proud of her. That was an even more brief of a visit. But they work and I still had a lot of miles to burn in a short amount of time.

After breakfast, headed into the hills and met up with a dear friend that I haven't seen in far too long. We spent most of the afternoon catching up. I departed ways and I headed west as far as I could get before the sun set. I made camp on the Gunnison River in the Curecanti National Rec Area.

The next day, it was a leisurely cruise through the fall colors. The last pic was just a spot that seemed like a good place to enjoy some biltong. I knew once I got into the flats, it was going to get boring.

Visited a ghost town called Bannack in Montana. Quite the colorful history of sheriffs, gangs, and vigilante justice. It was an old gold mining town in the middle of nowhere named after the local Indians.

Then it was an epic battle of headwinds, speed and fuel economy as I made it across Montana. Dipped into a hotel, near Billings, I think. I was already exhausted and I figured it was going to be a rough ride when I started heading south with the crosswinds. But no need to worry, the winds shifted for me and I was still fighting a headwind.

This was some really pretty country to drive through once you got into the hills North of Devil's Tower.

Quick stop at Devil's Tower. That was really cool to see this geological formation. And no, it isn't a prehistoric petrified tree.

Onwards to Mount Rushmore. Sorry no pics. That place was a mad house, and I didn't check myself into the mental ward. So, I passed that. I did see them briefly. They planned the roads, the parking structure and no pull-outs quite well. You have to go into the park to see anything. I saw them years ago. It was actually my very 1st road trip on a motorcycle, from Denver.

I cruised over to see the progress they've done on Crazy Horse. That will be epic to see once they complete it. It's already impressive. The little white dot under his nose is truck.

Then I was off to Nebraska to see some family I haven't seen in years.

Somebody forgot how fast thunderstorms move in the high plains. Barely made to a hotel when the lightning and rain started.

After leaving the most amazing stretch of highway. I was heading south towards Idaho when things started to become a bit smokey.

The 1st pic is still actually in Canada near Radium Hot Springs. The 2nd pic is on Harrison Slough looking towards Coeur d'Alene.

At this point, I was done with all the burning eyes, runny nose, sneezing fits, and having a burning throat... all while wearing a helmet. Just take my word for it. It sucks very much bad. I just wanted to get away from the smoke and get the helmet off. So, I made quick work of the last few hundred miles and didn't stop except for fuel.

My end game was at some very good friends of mine in Orofino. They took me out kayaking, rode some of the logging roads, explored the area and just mellowed in the small town vibes. How I miss being in small towns. I was able to get some badly needed maintenance done to Piglet. New tires, new chain and sprockets, and an oil change.

Then all too soon, I was back in my element.

Thank you for everything Mike and Billi. Miss you guys!
