Model Call!

I am looking for 5 women this summer who are looking to level up their headshot and have a high touch, strategic brand photoshoot with me.

This model call is open to any woman with a brand, but the industries & professions I'm particularly interested in collaborating with are:

Consultants
Lawyers
Accountants
Bakers
Florists
Business Coaches
Aestheticians
Baristas
Boutique Owners
Interior Designers
Architects
Food Truck Owners
Therapists
Financial Advisors
Orthodontists
Wellness Pros

This is not free, but deeply discounted at $375.

This includes pro hair & makeup, and an intentionally planned two part photo shoot, which would begin in my Jeffersonville studio with studio headshot and content creation, and follow up with an on location (their brick and mortar or another location we choose together) for more lifestyle brand photos.

They will receive an online gallery within 2 weeks of all the best photos from their session, with their choice of 5 photos to keep. You will have the option to purchase more, but there is no obligation to do so.

My intent is to leave them with a robust and diverse content bank they will be able to pull from well into next year, as they update their website, social media, marketing, etc.
This is not for somebody just looking to update their Linked In headshot (although we will get those too!), but instead, somebody who wants to inject the human behind the brand into their online presence and marketing.

Due to the high touch, time consuming nature of this type of shoot, I can only do 5 of these between July and August, so there is an application, which can be found here: https://www.honeybook.com/widget/jill_c_smith_photography_120893/cf_id/69975b5c3b25e5003bfd84db

Beacon, it’s your turn!

I am co-hosting another day of Personality Portraits, this time at in Beacon, NY, July 11, from 12-3pm.

There are 18 spots available for registration (1 spot’s fine for 1-3 kids honestly). This is how you guarantee a spot in front of my camera. But if you’re seeing this too late, and all those spots are taken, don’t sweat it. There will be plenty of time for walk-ins. Just pop into the shop between 12 and 3 and get a spot in line.

These portraits will be laid back, honest and simple, edited only in black and white so your fave little person is the main focus (see what I did there?).

There is no upfront cost, just buy the photos you love!

Beacon is one of my favorite towns to visit, so I am super excited for this collab!

This year, 35mm film officially became an add-on for my signature family sessions.

This is not to say that I’m abandoning digital photography. Not even close. Digital allows me to do so much more, so much efficiently, with so few mistakes, and wiggle room when I do make them.

But revisiting 35mm, this time as a professional photographer, has changed the way I photograph families.

Analog slowed me down in the best ways. I see things differently, click the shutter more intentionally, and it gives me pause. And this practice has translated into my digital work as well.

But processed film also possesses colors, textures and character that digital files lack, and this aesthetic has become an obsession.

And let’s face it. A photograph shot on film brings us back to our childhood, the way the photos look in our parents’ and grandparents’ photo albums, and it just makes the memories that much sweeter.

If this speaks to you, be sure to ask about adding a roll of 35mm film onto your family session this year.

Right now we are in my favorite month of my favorite season.

For me, May is full of peak human experience. The warmth is fully returning and settling in. Everything is growing back and lush.

There’s a color palette of May that’s gone by July. The sun, beaming through the thick atmosphere painting the land with a beautiful, rich light, so that the families photos we make look like bucolic landscape paintings.

I am pleased to say that more families than ever have given Spring a chance this year for their family photos.

Maybe next year you will too?

My take on school photography is a little different. Instead of giving you one or two poses with 100 of backgrounds and overpriced, mediocre print products, I provide families with a variety of fun and dynamic photos of their students.

Kids are photographed against a solid, timeless backdrop so I can spend more time getting authentic expressions, and less time superimposing them against a fake background of a bookshelf or lasers (not hating on the lasers though).

I have experience photographing schools with as many as 450 students, or as few as 10.

If your school needs a picture day upgrade, shoot me a DM with their info. Maybe this could be the year your kid brings home school photos you actually love?

Finding new ways to challenge myself as a photographer is a challenge within itself. But this year, I’ve been letting go of the need for perfect, diffused, golden hour light and bucking up to the challenge of shooting when the sun is highest in the sky (this is often unflattering, creating harsh shadows, etc).

What I’ve learned is that, while this is a completely different lighting scenario from the golden hour, sunset light I typical aim for, it’s equally as beautiful, just in its own unique way.

I’ve found it to lean more into the nostalgic feeling that I strive for. The photos made during this time of day are reminiscent of the ones from my childhood. Casual. No frills. No pretense. Deep shadows, bright skies and punchy colors.

For my families who appreciate this aesthetic as much as I do, it means we can be more relaxed with planning the timing of your session, and lean into what feels best for you.

I think one of my favorite functions of family photography is its ability to show you a zoomed out snapshot (two puns there, no intention) of your life. And in a way that often catches you off guard and takes your breath away, like, holy s**t - look at the incredible life I get to live. Because you deserve to see that. In the most beautiful way you can imagine.

This has been such an amazing spring for family photography already, and we’re just getting started.

April and May dates are waitlist only right now with a handful of spots left in June.

Right now we are currently booking June-August. Fall dates go live in a few months.

Just a heads up, there will only be 2 weekend dates per month available until November, so reach out soon if you’re one of my weekender families that haven’t booked yet.

In a few days, my youngest will turn 10.

Double digits. Two entire hands. Full blown tween.

And while that in it self is hard for me to believe (I still can’t believe I’m technically an adult), it somehow feels simultaneously like she’s been here forever, and like she was a baby just yesterday.

So I guess my point is, this part of my heart is what I lead with when I show up. The idea that every single season of parenthood is precious and fleeting and worth documenting. Honestly. Without performative curation.

I know that family photography that depicts life in such a raw and genuine way is not everybody’s cup of tea - but if it’s your’s, you’re in the right place.
